Yep that is about the size of the file. You can put it on any memory stick as long as it’s big enough. I think the next size up from 32 is 64.

Let me know if yours works

I will buy tomorrow a new 64 stick, and when it's done ill will let you know.
If you have a dealership near you they can download the maps for you and give you a memory stick to use then return.

A memory stick is always handy for other things.

Bought a 64 Stick and did the process by the Bmw Manager now it’s updating in the car. It’s at 60% so thinks it works well

You have the manager program put the file months stick. And then press 3 times the startbutton to put the car in service stand. Maybe that’s the problem for not working.
The file is also VIN number related.

Congratulations

Nothing worked for me even pressing the start button 3 times, nothing happened. Called into the stealership today and they gave me a BMW memory stick with the map updates on which had been coded for my baby. Plugged it in and worked immediately and started updating. Just told me to return it when complete so it can be re coded for the next person. They had no idea why my stick didn’t work? Perhaps it’s the make of memory stick it doesn’t like?

Triple press start button is not necessary for the car to initiate the update process. As long as the idrive is on, plug in usb stick with map should trigger the update. In theory, this should be the case but obviously, there are many other factors that may lead to update not being triggered.

Triple press start button will put the car into diagnosis mode whose purpose is simply to keep the car on for the entire duration of the update if you don't want to start the engine.

[ref]Nanu[/ref], glad it works for you now. It's always tricky to figure out the compatible issue around usb memory stick.

Just done that just now. First chance I’ve had to get the roof down so I can lean in to press the button. Put the usb in before triple press, as soon as I did the presses it came up with map update confirm, pressed confirm and it’s uploading as I type

I’ll update as soon as my car comes back from Bodyshop getting a new bumper. Might download it ready for collection. ;)

Still no sign of a general software update.

Having problems again, it downloads and validates, but then gives an error when saving. Shows on my removable disc but does nothing in car.

If it shows an error when saving to the usb stick, then obviously there will be a problem in the car.

How much space on your usb stick? And what format is it? Have you cleared it before doing the update?

500GB sounds like a portable HDD instead of Flash stick. The HDD may require more power than the car can supply unless it's USB-C. I think ori tested before about the USB-C functionality and his result showed that the USB-C can be used to update map as well.

When you say errors on saving, do you mean the BMW Download Manager on your computer instead of the car throws the errors when it tried to save the data to the usb stick?

Downloads using download manager, verifies using download manager. (All onto removable storage) Once verified and I click save, then I get an error.
