Manual Roof operation / Roof doesn't go down

Hi good folks.

I believe the micro-switch for the parcel shelf in the boot has randomly just snapped off (see pic with parcel shelf up)). As a result, even with the parcel shelf down - the roof doesn't operate. When pressing the button, I get the orange light and the roof doesn't unlatch.

Given the lovely weather atm - how does one manually unlatch the roof?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards
Rick

Hi Rick,
Does it still unlatch at the front? I doubt it from what I remember.
Therefore you need to remove the access panel in the front centre trim and unwind the locks with an allen key.
Then pull the red ring in the boot, twist it 90 degrees and lock it out.
Then you can move the roof by hand, but you'll need to lock it back up again with the allen key.
Also, you run the risk that the bypass valve will stick in and you won't be able to revert to motorised operation afterwards.
By far the simplest answer is to fit a new microswitch, or simply link the two wires on it to complete the circuit.

Where are you?
Maybe someone can help.
The microswitch is the same as the one that operates the centre storage compartment light.
I have a spare somewhere I think.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.
Just for clarification, my roof motor has been working fine.
When I press the roof down button, i get the orange light. It doesn't unlatch at the front, no motor whirring noise etc.

Somebody mentioned £50 on ebay for the micro-switch which seems silly for a tiny piece of metal that I seem to be missing.
I'm based in Nottingham but am in London today (if that helps)

Kind regards
Rick

If I sent you the switch is it something you could replace yourself?
When are you travelling home? Though I’m not exactly on your route !

Thanks. that's very kind of you. Ive luckily found the metal bit in the boot. Apparently it sometimes falls out of place. Gonna get some help to have it put back in and hopefully all should be fine.

Thanks again for your help.

No probs. Let me know if you need a replacement.

Update - Got my local to pop the metal bit back in the micro-switch. The chap did mention a couple of lugs seemed knackered (which might explain the metal clip popping out).
However with the parcel shelf down, I still get the orange light when trying to put the roof down. The roof doesn't unlatch either. Any ideas what the issue could be? Or is it just the micro-switch needs replacing?

enuff_zed - Could I take you up on your kind offer? I'll be leaving London later this afternoon and heading back to Notts. Whilst not ideal, I could pop over - if you're free/home? Happy to PM

Kind regards
Rick

Rick I've PM'd you my contact details.
It's well out of your way though.
If you'd rather I posted it?
Or your other option is to connect the two wires with a jumper cable in the plug to bypass the switch.

[ref]bigwinn[/ref] is near Lincoln which may be easier?
Stuart, can you help?

enuff_zed You're most kind. But hold fire.

As soon as I posted the above, I thought of including a pic of the microswitch as it is now. Noticed the parcel shelf wasnt clipped on properly. Fiddled around a bit and tried again and the roof went down fine (no more orange light).

Have given it a couple more goes and it seems to be working again (lord knows how long for). May try and book it in with RBM or Alan in Bristol at some point, for them to have have a proper look again at both motors. Does Stuart/Bigwinn also work on roofs/roof motors?

So glad to be part of this awesome community.

That's a result mate.
I'd suggest you simply leave the parcel shelf down now. It'll hold the switch in place.

When you say both motors, it is extremely rare for the front one to have issues.
The main one in the back should ideally be relocated to the boot.
Financially more sensible to do it while it is all still working.
Stuart has done far more than me (though between the whole community we can't match Alan's record!)
I would suggest you chat to Stuart about getting it done.

Agreed. I don't intend to put the parcel shelf up anytime soon. Lol!
Long story re roof. I had Mike (Zedshed) refurbish the motor and relocate it to the boot, when I first bought the car couple of years ago. The next day the roof wouldnt go down without a push (comes back up perfectly fine). He mentioned the pump head was knackered. I managed to source a second hand one and Alan (No5) kindly fitted it for me. However a couple of days later, again same issue and has been since. It's not the end of the world, but I guess if I can get it working perfectly - I may then get Gaptech fitted. The motor/pump probably just needs some minor adjustment, but just hadn't had the chance to arrange a visit to see Alan in Bristol again.

I may message Stuart to see if he can have a look. Just realised hes the chap who kindly gave me away some front discs earlier this year, when I did my brake upgrade.

That sounds more like the front not quite unlatching all the way, or a micro switch not operating quite right?
