Makes me want to cry

Thing is, it won't be worth much more in 10 years time because of having been looked after so well. Normal well made cars these days end up scrapped for other reasons before corrosion/rust destroy the sills etc, and make them fail the MOT's etc.

Fair do's if that is what takes your fancy, and fair do's if it's a very rare car and likely to be very valuable in future, but it's not really.

In my mind, stripping the car back, respray, and rebuild, would get the car looking nicer in 10 years time from now, and for less cost/hassle than looking after it excessively and not using in winter etc, than a well cared for model.

Different strokes for different folks though, but I subscribe to the rebuild if it's worth it when it's old mantra, and enjoy it as a functional item while it's new :D

I do this with my golf cabrio every year, she's eleven years old now and looks almost as good as the day I bought her brand new. I know that the value isnt reflected in her condition because of the huge numbers of similar cars around for about grand. However, I've kept her this long so might as well keep her another eleven years and see what sort of money she brings then. Not that I would sell her I dont think. Never been outside in the winter ever. It will end up as something else that my ungrateful nephew will inherit when Ive snuffed it! golfbeach001.jpg

Last winter I had only had my RX-8 (first RWD car and first car of 'power') for about a week when the ice arrived.

I nearly spun it going round a corner at 5mph about 200 yards from my house.

Superb condition that Golf    and nothing wrong with looking after a car that much if you intend to hang on to it for a long time what its worth is not the point

If I lived in Montreal I'd be putting baby away for the Winter.

Merseyside must have some of the most temperate weather in the world. Never very hot, never very cold. When the UK has extremes Merseyside gets the least of it. Ok in Winter but not so good in Summer.

Tempts fate, hurricane will strike on Sunday

You cant. However, million mile examples that have been trashed and mod'ed by boy racers often appear on ebay for about a grand. Makes sound one owner low mileage examples look like the are overpriced. I have an insurance agreed valuation of six grand on mine to reflect its condition and mileage but its getting very rare to find genuine Golf Cabrio's nowadays. Mine has the factory optional colour coded power hood and recaro interior, makes it a bit more desirable. However I am still in love with my Zed which has meant the golf never cam out at all this year.

Different strokes for... When all is said and done, I do it because I enjoy it, not for resale value or any other reasons, and that's good enough for me :)
