Main dealers washing cars.

Picked my car up from the stealers (Stephen James - Enfield) yesterday and shocked to see they have an Auto Car wash the same as in petrol stations. :headbang:

Glad I told them not to bother cleaning mine. :D

Still better than dirty sponge and drying cloth. I saw a guy using a bucket of dirty water and cloth to wipe dust off from AUC. :o

Despite a stern letter last time it happened, a permanent note on my file, and a 'do not wash' tag on the keyring the dealer valeters have decided to wash my car once again - and this time there's scratches to go along with the swirls :headbang:

This time however I wasn't going to let them get away with it and immediately nabbed one of the dealer principals, who has promised to rectify the situation.

It was picked up this morning to be taken to their bodyshop, and I've been given a diesel loan car in the interim.

It's also been mentioned that if the bodyshop do a quick/substandard job then I'll be taking it to my normal detailer to get it rectified, with the bill going to the dealer.

Stay tuned...

Shocking.

I can almost be certain it's going to come back from the bodyshop with buffer trails and holograms and all sorts of nastiness if my experience is anything to go by. I'd call your detailer and have them book you in provisionally!

I did voice my concerns about this to the DP at the time, but he asked that I give them the opportunity to rectify it themselves first.

I didn't really want to argue as if I give them the opportunity & they fail, I'll be in a stronger position to negotiate a proper job. If I'd tried to do this from the start it might have just been seen as my trying it on. So they've got one chance to fix it before I take it somewhere else - and it was due it's detail next month anyway.

Never fails to amaze me how bad main agents can be. My daughters Mini went in for some warrantly work and she mentioned white particles and roughness on the door cards. Later that day she received a call from the dealer that the detailer had been fired. The door cards 'melted' and new one's would be fitted in 48 hours so hang onto the courtesy car.

That was a worrying 48 hours, but in fairness they came through in the end.

Two simple rules:

1. Tell them not to wash it and get them to put it on the service 'in' sheet.
2. Before you leave your vehicle get the service reception guy/girl to go round you vehicle and check it.

I do it everytime and now they just accept it.

In the UAE it's standard practice at all dealers and they even use a check sheet (similar to a hire car check sheet) to go round your vehicle before they take the keys.

#1 is covered with the notes on my file, the job sheet, the pick-up/delivery sheet, and a 'do not wash' tag on the keyring.
#2 was completed when the car was picked up, where it was also pointed out that there was no damage to the car, but it was dusty from two days of driving, and they told me they had a note not to wash it.

So it seems that everyone in the chain knew not to wash it, but it still managed to be washed :headbang:

Wasn't disagreeing with your methodology. Exactly how I would have played it out too. Fingers crossed it just gets sorted first time round by them.

I'm planning on taking my xenon torch with me to run over the paintwork to show them any problems.

Got mine back today with two thumbprints on rear bumper (after it's enhancement  ) was happy though as I asked body shop manager to put on notes not to clean car
Although he could have rubbed off greasy thumb marks
Car was washed, Clayed waxed and sealed at weekend though so didn't want dirty sponge and shitty pressure washer anywhere near it.

First service today at Woods Bournemouth, positives, quick and plenty of coffee, negatives, smeary windows and the Daily Mail. :D
