MAF/throttle position sensor

Hello all

Getting to know the m a little more, and the engine is something of an enigma.

I'm surprised the engine isn't as manic to the redline as I had expected from reading all the reviews. At the last 1000rpm it seems to lose its vigour.

The car is also very lumpy at low revs - the sport button totally unusable as a result

It's just has its inspection 2 so should be in rude health. Are the maf/ throttle position sensor changed on insp 2? As It feels like it's that sort of problem.

Doing the throttle reset does help massively with the low rev lumpiness

Anyone else have similar and replaced with the maf/ throttle position sensor?

Thanks in advance

Mike

MAF and TPS are not changed as part of any service. Note that there are two TPSs on the S54 so changing them on a whim gets expensive. Most people I've spoken to reckon even with the new TPS the engine is naturally a little lumpy when cold.

Don't worry, sort button makes the car unusable any time! :P

You can replace the two TPS sensors and the MAF yourself, the parts will set you back around....£250 I think, maybe a tad more.....around that anyway. You could start by just replacing one or the other first and see if it helps to save a bit of dosh, TPS are around £70 each from memory so best to start with them and maybe just give the MAF a bit of a clean. Certainly not a bad place to start if your having those issues.....

Put a few tanks of V power through it and some quality injector cleaner.

Take the maf out and delicately clean with some contact spray.

Don't use the sport button it's horrendous.

Regards to the top end revs, I think the standard back boxes give that feeling of restraint, if you change them you can tell

I had a TPS fail a few months back just before/during a trackday and just a day after I'd serviced it (maybe I'd upset it when unplugging to get the oil filter out?). It ran pretty cleanly but was down on power at the top end, not sure someone new to the car would be able to tell though. After a while it threw an error code, changed the TPS (luckily the easy one by the oil filter) and it was back to normal again. Not sure if that helps but mine did have that symptom of loss of power at the top end.

Must be just your car buddy As mine pulls like a train from 900 all the way no stopping

Sport button I never have mine off
It teaches you to drive the car so much better and makes your clutch throttle mix smoother and far more rewarding
