Machine monkeys zed

So not making exhaust tips has let me have some time to make some bits for myself. Thanks very much to Scoober_Steve I have made myself a set of engine mounts. Made to a very similar specification to another well known engine mount ...................

Mint!

Very nice those mounts.
What kind of rubber did you use?
Is the inner construction similar to the VT mounts?

For reference inner of the vt mounts:

They might be the same!! I borrowed a VT off a forum member. I just used some rubber that was knocking around it was the same sort of desity. But I will have to get something else. But it was a good learning curve I have never machined rubber before.

I am glad it helped

And the car failed on the lambda new sensor and that will be fixed hopefully!!

So my car failed its mot!!

Work has begun fixing the small issues... But i have got carried away and it looks like it will be off the road for a while. I have got my teeth stuck into a few jobs. redoing my exhaust getting rid of all the BMW stuff and custom building from the headers back. the gearbox is off and new clutch will be going in. The steering system will be swapped.

What with having a new baby i have no time frame. I would want it all done by spring ideally before Christmas.

And after much thinking... the 1uz z4 will happen one day. But as I am building an exhaust system it would be rude not to build a turbo into it!!!!! A list is being drawn up a plan is in place I may well be buying the hardware next week!!!

It will most likely be run for a while with waste gates open. So not actually doing much!! But it will be ready for when I have the ECU sorted. Or cash saved for that and the tune..

Not going to big on power we shall see what we get. But this will be a cheap power adder. No more details just yet but if all goes well you will get the full story and plenty of updates

So i have a parts list and i will be ordering next week.
Cheap t28 turbo
Oil scavenge pump
Water and oil lines
inter cooler
manifolds for the turbo
some silicone bits

The management side of things has not yet to be decided. Maybe a piggy back system. I have a guy i trust to do the tune. Just waiting on what he suggests.

 No the zed is still getting love. I am probably doing a silly thing and stretching myself far to much financially!!
But i have been talking about it for far to long. And my exhaust needed work. Me and Chris where under my car looking at how we where going to attack the exhaust. And Chris wandered over with an old knackered T28 Turbo off an s14 and said look this fits hear!! And so a plan has now been instigated. Its going after the cats where the first silencers would be.

So i got a little work done on the z4 this weekend. And hopefully by next weekend the rack and clutch and g-box back on.

So the gearbox came off and i found that the little white lie I told Mrs Monkey!! And my clutch was actually knackered.
Chris got his head in the way!!

old clutch

Shine new light weight fly wheel single mass clutch. It weighs half as much and there was so much play in the old one this is going to be great.

Fly wheel in its not bolted up as i wanted to check a few things out.

No leaks round the back of the engine she looks like new

And the hydraulic rack is going in as well. The 2 racks measure the exact same length 580 mm from end to end. I again need to check the layout of where the pump and pipe work goes before fitting. But by next weekend we should be looking good for me to start building my new exhaust.

I found a coolant leak so that will have to get fixed as well. Then oil and filter,Plugs and a new coil for cylinder 5 as its showing a fault. I am also going to drop the diff out as its weeping slightly I obviously didn't seal it up properly when i fitted the LSD.

I'll be interested to see how you get on with the flywheel as I was at Birds today for my LSD and the owner Kevin tried one but didn't get on with it. The first one caused something to break so they sent him another one and they'd changed how it mounts. He still ended up taking it off, not sure exactly why as I was told via Ian the workshop manager. On a 3 series but same principle.

Sounds like exciting stuff Matt, I suspect you will need cooler plugs once the turbo's fitted & doing its stuff
Rob

I am not 100% on the turbo at the monent. But this round of mods will keep me happy for a bit.
