Cool i suspect i will still end up rolling around under one

So as the supra is getting close to completion. I have been again thinking about my car.
I have the clutch and light weight fly wheel to go on. I have a second had oil pump on route to me. The oil pump is so i can modify it to stop the known problem of the nut coming off and loosing oil pressure. Not a problem if you dont track you car or spend long periods in and above 6k rpm.

But this got me thinking why it happens? And its down to engine harmonics. And adding a light weight aluminum fly wheel will not be help that out. Less mass and a less absorbent material to the standard item. So i have been looking all over the internet at various options. And i think i have my solution sorted. A company just down the road from me called Vibration free have a product that called a sterling rattler. I have sent an email and i am impatiently waiting for a reply.

I am also dreaming of ITBs and cams and head porting......

A 'sterling rattler' eh? Sounds kinky.
:?

I guess?????????

Hears the company https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjg9dL7-_zOAhVlL8AKHdIZDVcQFggdMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fvibrationfree.co.uk%2F&usg=AFQjCNFcpugigxo4evbNYhqoVFVHOT3hjQ&sig2=rASjzLiVZ6accUkYD_96uQ

Looks interesting.
Have dealt with vibration damping, resonance supression and own-frequency ID on fighter jets and ship design. Can be disastrous if not accounted for at the design stage.
I doubt my zed will ever see anything past 6000rpm tho. therefore maybe overkill for me.

Mine dose a few track days and drift days. I hope i will be doing more in the future too.
That and adding a light weight fly wheel i am thinking its 100% needed for mine. It wont do any harm when i start looking for more power either. A nice stable crank has to be better than one moving. I wonder if this is part of the problem with the rod bearings on a s54????

So now the supra is about done thoughts are starting to drift back to my poor neglected z4.
And i have been disusing power upgrades with a few friends. And my friend in the know about ECUs and Chris (building the supra with) Are swaying me towards a v8 swap instead of a Turbo.....
The cost would be about the same.
I know the engine i have but.......... To get 100% reliable power figure around 400bhp I will need to spend quite a few quid more.
Or for less cash i could transplant the V8 instantly 280bhp and 290 ft lbs. And then fit a S/C to well over 500bhp
I should be able to use my clutch and gearbox might need the prop shaft modding with the V8. The V8 is a little heavier but not much. And the weight is more over the front axle as its shorter engine.

Much to think about... I have lots of time to think it through. Opinions below please forum maybe i need a poll.

What V8 are you thinking Mat?

What would you be happier with engine wise a turbo or V8?

Ash

1uz Toyota v8.

As to the other question i am not sure. I like the idea of a rear mount turbo straight 6. But there are a lot of things to do to get that working right. Pistons head gasket arp studs. Harmonic damping engine mounts possibly new cams and porting the head to get 500bhp.

1uz Engine mounts a bit of fabrication work to a few things. Witch we have already done mostly getting a BMW box on to this engine in the supra build. And then ecu (witch will be easier on this engine instead of the m54) Plus i would have a v8 z4 tricky lots to think about.

Luckily for me i need to save lots so its not happening any time soon. But i would like to make my mind up. I like to think things through and try and solve problems before they arise (never works really)

How about this Matt???

I have seen that it looks great. But i dont have that kind of cash!! Plus its already made where is the fun in that. I want to skin my own knuckles and get stressed and fed up with my own build

So not making exhaust tips has let me have some time to make some bits for myself. Thanks very much to Scoober_Steve I have made myself a set of engine mounts. Made to a very similar specification to another well known engine mount ...................

You're pretty handy with the old lathe aren't you!
ANy pics of your workshop on here?

I have been know to make a thing or 2.
I am sure there must be somewhere.

Hear you go
There is a lift a supra our mill guillotine bench and if you look closely a dog in this picture. The lathe is behind the guillotine. we also have MIG and TIG welding equipment and a tyre fitting machine.

And another supra and our spray booth

Its all improvised and old stuff as its only our hobby shop. A grown upo play ground

NICE!

Looks forlornly at my old socket set, tray of knackered old screwdrivers and brand new set of bolt extractors in comparison.
