screen has to come off to change the ram
Not on the 27" models

I'll let you know what they say on Thursday! I think 16gb will be a good bet to try and future proof to some degree.

I'm buying from an outlet in Durham and they seemed switched on. They say that they will do a full set up with my iPhone etc and make sure that the glitches in my iTunes and my wife's iTunes accounts (I copied my iTunes to her pc by disk when that option was available)

The tuition package is £79 for unlimited one hour lessons (one to one) for a year. Like most new pc/cad systems I've been exposed to over the years - it seems that there a load of questions at first, then after a short time you wonder what all the fuss was about! However my brain is much older now

On older 27" models (before ~2011) there is a cover plate at the bottom of the casing
On the newer 27" (slimmer) models it's on the back just below the mounting bracket

I'll do it for £78

I've collected it!

I stuck with the standard spec machine - The shop guys convinced me that a RAM upgrade was ok as a retro fit and would probably be cheaper at that time.

I bought a charging bar for the keyboard and track pad and a inductive mouse charger. I also got a 1Tb drive to run as a backup disk

The next task is to get my study tided up and my old kit stored properly - I have a pile of legacy data that I will have to use quite soon, so its important it is all at hand.

I reckon my big switch on will be Sunday - I'm sure it'll be fine - The quick demo in the shop looked like it will be a whole lot quicker than my old steam laptop :D

I also got suckered into Apple TV box which seemed like a good idea at the time!

The only Apple TV worth having is the ATV 2 jailbroken.
You can use the atv3 for lots of things tho, which I'm sure was explained to you. (I've got a 2 & 3)

Congrats on your mac, I love mine.

Havent read all the posts (lazy I know) I got the office package from software for students - do you know a student or are you a member of any exam board having done any exams in the last few years - I did some exams with work through IFS a long time ago - put in my membership number and job was a goodin!

Funny I was just looking at my track pad - never use it - its all furred up where the batteries have corroded - thought it would be brilliant but I found the magic mouse too good!

Update:-
I got the iMac and have to say its a nice bit of kit and a whole lot quicker than my eight year old Vaio laptop.
The only problem I have is the transition from PC to Mac - The change of methods hasn't come naturally to me yet, I have to use help files a lot!

I miss the desktop icons but no doubt I will survive - I'm making a list of hints and tips as well as booking in for the Apple stores tuition scheme but any little hints and tricks anybody has would help.

That's appreciated! I had to go back to go back to the apple shop today and get them to kick start me!

I'm starting to feel a whole lot more comfortable with the mac now. The first couple of weeks it all felt very alien and I did start to regret the change, but now things are fitting into place and the machine has more of my data and links etc. In short its feeling like mine now!

I'm starting to see why folk like them so much.

The magic mouse is getting used more than the track pad.
