M6

I have been a passenger in one and it was an awesome car...
Its big,but so is a ballistic missile......Which is what it emulates....The one i went in had a performance pack,it was more BHP iirc..

I would own one if i had the chance and money, mean and purposeful to look at... I think the whole design is to die for. Sakhir Orange with anthracite wheels would be my choice.

Your not the only that the M4 leaves cold....Capable and quick but boring to look at and boring to drive. For all that money i would want something that looks a little different to the thousands of rep cars you pass on a daily basis.

It's the sort of car i'd love to borrow, or just 'have', but i think vs it's competitors i'd struggle to throw cash at one until they're 'bargain' cheap unless it happened to somehow drive brilliantly, hence the original question :D sounds like maybe not.

Keen to hear what these £1500 cars are! i'm well versed with every sporty car from 15k-150k, but i stopped looking at bargain cars after i sold my old Saab 9-3 SS :D

I'm a big fan of the megane, as is the Mrs, haven't driven one tho.

I think i might have one of them supercharged F type Jaguars for similar money (?)...

They look awesome too....

Obviously subjective but I think the M4 looks mean and pretty aggressive and I love the look of it...I haven't driven one so cant comment on that but I didn't reckon much to my E92 M3 to drive as a daily one bit, I would hope the M4 is poles apart as a daily in comparison in terms of usable performance...

As 110mph in third at the redline in the E92 M3 isn't especially usable! the low end torque of the M4 would come in handy too because they forgot to give the last model any torque...the tight gits!

Yea...... actually boring to drive is too harsh,i should retract that..

Its just nor special enough for the money...

Captures to perfection what the M6 is & does , totally unnecessary on most level's but oozes menace & purpose , kinda like sending in a tank when a sniper will do the job just fine 8)

It is gorgeous, especially with that body kit.

But what makes you think that it's own M division engine doesn't need the care of warming that ours do ?

I use mine all the time - if it's a short run and it's cold, I just don't push it and keep the revs low. If you're worried about engine wear just change the oil more often. Should be doing that anyway...

My only driving experience is with the new M5 as a passenger. Holy moly, that thing is fast - but it is point and shoot with the DCT of course. If I was driving the long distances like I did with my 740, I would be seriously tempted in getting something like that for a daily.

My E70 40d like your 640D Lee is pretty rapid as well though, but being an auto as well is just for motorway driving and nothing exciting about it - except for outpacing almost anything on the road.

Agree Paul and I do love that about it and there has been a few times when people have come flying up behind me and I have booted it and just whipped off into the distance and they are great for that

Sounds like the M6 is the best daily for regular long journeys... would of been handy as a student when i was doing huge mileage every week... shame i had huge debt and zero cash :D

But IMHO all the cars in the same category are the same… but the M4 is the best of the bunch, I don't think the M6 is.

Problem is when you drive the M4 and then back to back with a 911 there is just no comparison (at the 60k price point). But if you want a car with 4 big seats and a boot and goes like s**t off a shovel the M4 only thing worth looking at *NEW*. Also the fact the 911 is twice the price new the M6 is similarly priced although not exactly the same sort of recipe competition is more like a panamera. The high power exec market is a tough one and the M6 sits between a sports car and a barge.

I love the M6, sounds great (although its turboed) seriously fast, like seriously fast feels like warp speed! Looks mean and has some serious pedigree, Looks far better than a porsche panamera, has so much luxury the interior is lovely and is relatively rare on the road.

It has also been named the best M car of its generation numerous times across numerous publications.

But at the end of the day there is something that just doesn't sit with me… ticks most of the boxes but its not a sports car and like I keep going on and on and on about… the 911 is the best of both worlds for me in nearly every scenario. It can be a GT, it is a sports car it has the pedigree and the driving experience is far above and beyond anything we have discussed. Makes the M4 and M6 feel like a toy, very disconnected driving experience. But if you are driving them everyday they are fast if not faster than a 911 and easy to drive not tiring. So depends on your needs I suppose.

Cant deny the M6 is a brilliant car, just not quite for me.

Out of all cars out at the moment, bar say something special like a GT3, I would like like a V8 F Type. But I wouldn't buy one at the moment. I wouldn't be buying a 911 either as the reliability would worry me unless I was buying new and not a long term keeper. The non GT3 DFI engines seem to be ok so far though. The GT3 DFI engines don't seem to be doing very well at the moment! I could see me buying an M3 at the moment for the type of driving im doing, but it comes down to what you would be using the car for I think, as if it was just a weekend car, it might not be special enough.

What's the beef with the new DFi ?

Thought they was ok, only heard a few bad stories ... Not like the previous generation of engine

I think the normal DFI is ok, but they seem to be a lot of reported problems with the GT3 engines. Obviously they were catching fire when they first came out, but some people of Piston Heads are reporting having to have new engines. I think one GT3 is on engine number 8, but I think it has a hard life. Even so, number 8 is not acceptable. Also notice that the GT3 RS has a lower rpm limit than the GT3.

This is a recent thread with some talk on it:

Problem with the F type is the interior it feels cheap and tacky seriously sub par for its price and to me it has to have that luxury and the interior just doesn't at all.

There is a cubby hole in the centre which is like 2mm thick plastic and bends in your hand. Poor imo.

You can see it in the bottom left of this image

It looks quite smart but the materials are <20k hatch back quality.

Yes I know what you mean. I also found the paint finish very poor around some of the bumpers, which is not what you expect for 90K.

When I got back into the Z from being in one, the Z felt tiny in comparison as well!

I think its the fun factor that appeals though.

It's hard to get superb interior feel in any car though..

All the German brands suffer in areas..but I know what your saying about the jaguar.

Funnily enough the XK's when I was buying one seemed to have worn very well in comparison to similar aged, miles BMW's..
God knows what Merc use buts it's god awful stuff

Personally i sat in the Jag and loved it, felt much better than 911 / Z4 / M4 i've sat in thus far. Very imposing car though, in looks and noise. There's no way i can quietly sneak that onto my road late at night, or park it without getting 'too much' attention.
