M3 or M4?

Hate to be picky, but I'm pretty sure centrifugal force would have the dog pinned at one side of the car or the other :P
Not if it's doing donuts :P

Sorry donuts would supply forces at a tangent because the centre of rotation is off centre, if you tied a rope from the front end and twirled it around then that would work.

Classic case of advertising license :D

Anyway, M4 if I had to

Neither. The powertrain kills them both for me. I love the weight, the transmission, the look (kinda), but a straight six twin turbo? Not for me. High revving, NA all the way. Hopefully the Viper and Vette around will keep NA high revving engines alive.

You mean this pics not real. Gutted.

Always pushes me back in the seat.

I'd like an M3 touring.

As for size, both are fecking massive in the metal. I know there's been a lot of bemoaning the fact these new M cars are blown but it opens up some serious tuning potential surely. 4.3s 0-60 may well be slightly conservative as usual. Do we think it could get to sub 4s with a bit of software?

Can't say that either floats my boat. Big heavy taxis.
You make a valid point & when you consider my M3 weighed the same as a 520d you can see why I always criticised it for being a barge, I am looking forward to the blown motor in the next one though as the V8 was as flat as a pancake at low revs & didn't offer any usable power in the real world...it was epic at 6k revs plus but its not easy to drive everywhere as those revs!

Pleased they are trying to keep the weight as low as possible in this model & the low down grunt from the turbos & improved economy is a step in the right direction, plus it's a big positive that its still offered with a manual gearbox. :driving:

If the snippets of news coming out about the M4 are true, then weight-wise it will be virtually the same weight as the Z4MR/Z4MC.
1500kg is what I've heard. The Z4M's are about 1475/1485 aren't they?

I think they are OG & if they hit that target weight of 1500kg it will be a massive achievement when you consider the E92 M3 weighs around 1655kg & historically the next generation has always been heavier than the last.

Doesn't the auto car article say it's lighter ? :?

You're right Bing!

I hadn't bothered to read that because I saw it first thing yesterday morning but at that stage BMW hadn't revealed any further spec details (it was just photos of the finished cars "leaked online"). Autocar must have updated the article later in the day when BMW released more official info.

So 1497kg for manual and 1537kg for DCT. 0-62 in 4.1 for DCT so 0.60 in 3.9 probably. Damn fast in other words.

Makes me wonder what Beedub's car would be capable of... 8)

Parkers has the Z4MC at 1420kg, not sure what the official figures are though.

Either way, the M4 at <1500kg (just) is a pretty exciting prospect.

Plus the easy tuning of a turbo engine could make this an epically quick motor...I need to start saving up fast!!

Tempted... I'd still have to get over that rather naff 3 series interior tho. But like OG says, in a pure performance car, the interior is less important.

Anyone seen pics of the interior yet ? I can't wait to hate the glowing logos on the seats

The only I've seen is this one Bing (it's the M3).

That white/black interior I like. The one I don't is;

I think it just looks messy and cluttered OG. There's too much going on. Black usually hides fussy interiors but this just looks over styled even in black. Lines all over the place seemingly for the sake of it that don't match up/meet just makes it look a mess. 1/2/3/4 series interiors just feel a bit cheap IMHO and are too fussy in design. 5 series and up have lovely/simpler interiors in whatever colour. I know for a lot of people they don't care what the inside looks like. I do care as its where I sit. All those swooshy cut in lines are a bugger to clean too. The M4 interior that's part white and black helps lift it a bit as it distracts you from all the other fussy lines. I also note they've kept that bloody god awful bit of cheap matte plastic around the gearstick. On every car I get in I can't help but look at that and think 'Amstrad'.
