M140i Collected & Piccies

Sorry, I dont get them at all.
I understand that they are quite special regards to the engine etc but they just dont look special.
Saw one today parked next to a Hyundai I30 and taking performance out of the equation, the Hyundai looked the better car.
I know that the silver mirrors are not just associated with that model but it just looks wrong, it looks like you have lost one and picked up a cheap one at a scrappies in the wrong colour. I think black mirrors would look better along with the silver bits in the front grill gloss black and gloss black window trim. Not into black wheels but I think they would suit that too.
Hope you like it though.
By the way, how is it jumping from that into your Z3? Does the Z feel really old or still feel good?

End of the day its a hatch, its never going to have the Z4 looks but what I like is having nearly 350hp in a car that looks like a 116i M Sport :) I don't know if its my age  but I don't get the gloss black look on cars, black wheels, grill etc seems to be a youngster thing. Same with the mirrors alot of manufacturers have jumped on the different coloured mirrors bandwaggon, I think its supossed to make the car look sporty :)

The Z3 feels ancient in comparison even though its just 15 years older. I've just downloaded the BMW Remote App onto my phone and registered the M140i so now I can lock, unlock the car, turn the heating or air con on or lights from wherever I'am and also track the cars location etc, might be useful if its nicked :? so getting back into the Z3 is less scary

Seems to be a seriously quick little bit of kit :D

Thanks alot KERMIT :)

Been for its first real run this morning and by eck it's nippy and trying to stay below 4500  I'm giving the runflats some respect, unsure how they will behave in the wet. I'm being wary as they feel just like the MPSS but unsure on comparable grip.

I'm still unsure on the B58 engine compared to the N55, it sounds good but maybe not quite as good :|

It takes a good 1000 miles for the engine to settle in sound wise. A friend of my son's picked up his 240 a week earlier and the sound has changed a lot in the 1300 miles he has done so far.

Thanks pvr, will see how it goes, its certainly more muted at cold starts and inside the cabin but as you say early days and mileage.

I bet it will get louder with a few miles. My 2nd Z4 35iS was v quiet for the first 5K miles and got a lot louder by 7K. My first one at 30K miles was like it had a different exhaust on !! Give it time :) I bet it will be a lot better than the M135i .... it has all the makings on paper so there is no reason why it shouldn't be really good. I expect if it was out when I ordered my A45 AMG I would have struggled to pull myself away from BMW - especially after 5 on the trot !

You sure about that ? - on my 4 series the "Climate" function turns on the fans but no heat is generated - Which is about a useful as a chocolate fire guard.

Guess it's designed for warmer climates :D.

from the BMW website

In the "Climate" menu you can turn on the auxiliary heating* or auxiliary ventilation**

* This requires the optional equipment item auxiliary heating.
** Depending on the series and model, some vehicles require additional optional equipment for automatic air conditioning in order to operate the “Climate-auxiliary ventilation” function.

Nice looking car but agree about the front bumper - the new one is less attractive than the old one - but hey ho - You wont be looking at the front :D

Cheers SO8, the engine spec and design look to be improved over the N55 with some noteable improvements apart from the vanos being at the rear of engine against the bulkhead :? Lets hope they are reliable :)

Depending on how long you have the A45 for you might be able to bag an M140i before it goes out of production 2017/18 :)

I'm not Jasey no, maybe I've misread on the BMW website when I was registering for connected drive, I haven't tried yet but sounds like it might not be worth it. Its not something I'm fussed about to be honest. I'm more interested in the tracking and whether it actually works if the car was stolen. I'd heard stories where stolen cars were trackable by BMW but refused to give details to the police or weren't exactly helpful :?

No reason it shouldn't work - As far as I know it uses the built in Mobile Phone Card and tracks the last know position of your car.

Can't see you would need to contact BMW at at all - it all seems pretty automatic to be.

And Very accurate - pinpoints my car on my drive and on my Mum's drive when I was down visiting her last month.

Interesting will have to look at it more detail, the cars poision is appearing to me when I go through the mobile app so will be interesting to see tomorrow if I can lose it :D It would be useful to switch the engine off and lock the doors :)

What Brand of rft's are on the 140 Tim ?

They're Bridgestone Potenzas and seem a world away from the Runflats I had on the Z4 and previous E87 118d however I didn't have adaptive suspension on those cars so I don't how much it helps the ride quality.

I Think they must have done something as they are much better now, the only thing I would say compared to the MPSS is they are tad noisier. I don't miss the stones the MPSS flick up the side of the car, don't get that with the runflats :)
