/M Trackday

Right, in talking to a few members in person it seems there's a bit of interest in booking a trackday for some people to experience these awesome cars in their proper habitats.

Bedford is always a great shout as it's run off areas everywhere, safety is tight and it would be very hard to get any sort of damage during the course of the day.

Obviously with winter setting in, weather is riskier but this means the price dips too, but I personally don't mind a semi-wet day, it's usually more fun.

So to guage interest, a quick look at a trackday calendar tells me there's a few days coming, big problem seems to be whether you guys could make a week day as it would be cheaper. Before I enquire about any group / club discounts, two possibles would be:

Here is a good calendar, this is specifically for Bedford.

Saturday 23rd October - Full Day - £179
Saturday 6th November - Full Day - £169
Monday 8th November - Full Day - £149

Remember - this is not something to be afraid of where a lack of experience is concerned - this is a massive open track with lots and lots of space where you can really get a feel for the car in fast corners, stretch it's legs on the straights etc.

Turn up, do a few laps to get your confidence and slowly push more and more. When I last did Bedford I did about an hour with the DSC on, had a tuition lap (as it was free) and then got to a point where I was quicker & the DSC was kicking in less and less, then took it off for a hoon. About 3pm it started raining for 20mins, which was the best bit, much more control needed, much more fun to be had & plenty of E30s going off every bend as they had no DSC. It's also good to see other top cars thrashing around - there was a guy in a fab white 911 GT2 giving it the beans last time - was awesome trying to keep up.

So... who's up for it ? & who just likes looking at their /M, wondering what it can really do ? :poke: :driving:

This isn't a great video but it gives you a good idea of the space of the 3.6m GT Circuit:

Nice work Andy. Definitely keen on a Bedford day. I think given the paltry price difference it makes sense to do this at the weekend. I've only done one day before - the BMW CC day on the SW circuit which was great. I got a half hour's tuition learning the track at pace and then spent the latter half of the session with the DSC off -

I think I'm free on the 23rd and definitely on the 6th (the other half is enrolled on a cooking course, each to their own!)

No point owning an M and just driving to the shops :driving:

Last time I got insurance through Moris - about £100 with 1k excess or thereabouts. Well worth it for peace of mind if you're a newbie.

I'm definitely interested, but I won't have my oncall rota until after I change hospitals in October, so I can't commit to any particular date as yet. Weekends are generally better for me, and, as tjlazer says, the price difference isn't much :driving: :D

Excellent, shaping up well. I'll try and contact a couple of people and see if I can shave some more money off if we get a fixed number - might get a few people to commit then also.

Sorry to any non-/M owners who might fancy this, would like to keep a theme for now but obviously any of these days are open to the public regardless. I have this feeling if we keep it /Ms for now, it's more likely to keep people interested who might be 50/50, & thats the spirit of what I'm trying to do here.

im in.......................... earlier the better, i need dry weather otherwise the metros will be passing me, i struggle for traction as is!!!!

it will be nice to get to a track where i can build some boost. ;-)

My only negatives - and they're extremely minor - are that it's flatter than a flat thing in Flatland, and that there's not much in the way of reference points for most corners

Agreed - not bothered about the hills personally (I'll do Spa eventually), but some of the corners do look a bit bland.

But... it's very confidence inspiring because of that space so beginners will appreciate that, rather than having a hill or two, a reference point but thousands of metres of scary barriers.

Assuming you've still got it, & it's not beneath you.. you coming down Tony ? :poke:

I'd love to, but assuming it's not sold will mean I'll be short on cash as I'll have about £2.5k's worth of insurance, tax, warranty & tyre bills to pay all in November - and I'm supposed to be rebuilding my 'rainy day' funds that I've been living off for the last 8 months.

Andys scared that the non ms may whoop all of our asses!!! After all driver is much more important than an out n out fast car.

It's a fair point though, I can't see why this shouldn't be for any forum members given we're a relatively exclusive bunch already! More attendees means better buying power/more zeds so surely a good thing?!

I think we'd struggle to populate a track day entirely with ///Ms, but we might just manage to get enough interest for a Zeds only day... just a thought :?

Right, enquired about the 6th Nov then to see if it can be any cheaper. 10 cars so far..
