/M Trackday

Theyve not come back to me on a discountm but then it will probably sell out anyway, let me chase..

I'm happy with that date tho, & so are 9 others.. so it's penciled in mine for now.

I should have an idea of my on call rota later this week. Definitely up for 6th November it if work permits.

I woiuld also be interested? Happy with weekday or weekend?

Look forward to seeing the price. Bedford is a great circuit to explore the limits and feeel confident that barriers are not to close to the track??

Do u need to get any trackday insurance before you do this? also what sort of tyre wear are we looking at. I've just had new fronts put in, would it be a problem? sorry for so many questions? never done trackday before and what better than to do with fellow z drivers.

Right, in talking to a few members in person it seems there's a bit of interest in booking a trackday for some people to experience these awesome cars in their proper habitats.

Bedford is always a great shout as it's run off areas everywhere, safety is tight and it would be very hard to get any sort of damage during the course of the day.

Obviously with winter setting in, weather is riskier but this means the price dips too, but I personally don't mind a semi-wet day, it's usually more fun.

So to guage interest, a quick look at a trackday calendar tells me there's a few days coming, big problem seems to be whether you guys could make a week day as it would be cheaper. Before I enquire about any group / club discounts, two possibles would be:

Here is a good calendar, this is specifically for Bedford.

Saturday 23rd October - Full Day - £179
Saturday 6th November - Full Day - £169
Monday 8th November - Full Day - £149

Remember - this is not something to be afraid of where a lack of experience is concerned - this is a massive open track with lots and lots of space where you can really get a feel for the car in fast corners, stretch it's legs on the straights etc.

Turn up, do a few laps to get your confidence and slowly push more and more. When I last did Bedford I did about an hour with the DSC on, had a tuition lap (as it was free) and then got to a point where I was quicker & the DSC was kicking in less and less, then took it off for a hoon. About 3pm it started raining for 20mins, which was the best bit, much more control needed, much more fun to be had & plenty of E30s going off every bend as they had no DSC. It's also good to see other top cars thrashing around - there was a guy in a fab white 911 GT2 giving it the beans last time - was awesome trying to keep up.

So... who's up for it ? & who just likes looking at their /M, wondering what it can really do ? :poke: :driving:

This isn't a great video but it gives you a good idea of the space of the 3.6m GT Circuit:

Andy, I bet you will not win when she is on the track ....

Insurance is up to you, and it's 1st party only (i.e. covers damage to your car only). The rates are about £10/£1000 of cover plus 10% excess.

Front's should wear much at all, but I wouldn't do any trackday on brand new tyres (i.e. less than 1,000 miles).

It'll probably be wet anyway, and you'll not have any wear at all.

Good question - and the form they use for Contact is the one they've ignored me on. Can't see a number..

btw... thanks rolf :|

EDIT: Right... found this, same price but it's marked as a Book Early Price.

I'll email them to try and get it cheaper, but might be worth getting on and doing this as it's exactly a month away.

Sorry folks:

Hi Andy

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately the 6th November has now become full for this day.

If you do have any other dates in mind please contact me and I will be able to sort a discount overall out for you.

Kind regards
Emma

I can do Monday too... take a day off, probably less people on the track :driving: because on some summer track days you have the feeling your're on piccadilly circus on a friday night...

Hi Andy

Thank you for your reply.
The only other Saturday we have at Bedford this year is December and the other dates are Monday’s.
Would you be able to do a Monday or Just the Saturday?
Kind regards
Emma

I'd be happy with a Monday too.. might be a smidgim cheaper also & agreed about how quiet it is.

I shall PM I think to make sure I get peoples' attention.

"The dates we have are:
Monday 8th November
Monday 15th November
Monday 6th December
The cost for these days is £149.00 per person but I would be able to do a 5% discount on each person.
"

-5%= £141.55

That's pretty good for a full day Open Pitlane at Bedford, assuming reasonable weather.

I need to give six weeks notice to take leave, so realistically that means even 15th November would be a slight struggle. I'd be up for any Monday after that with sufficient notice though!

Alternatively, I've used this company before, and the are extremely well organised and very safe. The run airfield track days which are fairly cheap too:

http://www.motorsport-events.com/ - Click on 'full events calender' on the right side of the screen, blue box.

I'd be up for Abingdon Friday 19th November (good all round mix of straights and interesting corners) or Hullavington Friday 26th November (excellent straight, allowing speeds of up to 130mph).

The lure of Bedford was the huge 3.2m circuit with lots of proper bends and a good straight - but all with excellent run off areas. It gives you confidence to have fun and go all out without thinking you're going to stick it into a wall, but with plenty of tight corners & chicanes.

I've tried looking for a map of Abingdon circuit as it's quite close to me, but can't see anything.

So you'd be able to take a Friday off, but not a Monday? Or is it because those dates are later?

Any other feedback welcomed - will end up going with the majority probably. Although... I'm desperate to see Beedub's SC machine in front of me around Bedford.. :driving:

Bedford is the best option I think. Don't mind if it's Friday or Monday as long as it happens! Sooner is probably better from a track condition perspective...going to see if I can get some track time on the 6th regardless. Any ideas?

The calendar link on the first page shows Bedford is full now - which confirms it wasn't just one agency's allocation.

The only other venues on that Saturday are Oulton Park (Drift Day) and Elvington in Yorkshire which is an airfield.

drifting is £125 but ive just put new rears on.. if i was going to do a proper drift day (not on an artificial surface) I'd probably source some cheap rears to burn out, not brand new Vreds for the Winter.

Don't fancy Yorkshire either - if I go too far north I get nosebleeds. There's some vids of it here[/b], looks unlikely you'll hit anyone but it's cones on an airfield and one car at a time - half the fun of bedford was getting a 911 GT2 very close behind & trying to pull away.

Shall we aim for Monday 6th?

I think the drift day is on a watered track so tyre wear is low. I might investigate further but otherwise let's aim for Monday 8th!
