M Track Mode enabled on Z4MR

I've managed to activate.

I couldn't use expert mode as it threw up a version error.

So against better judgment to mess with what I don't know, I used 'Expertenmodus (often)' all went to plan but got an error after.

DTC lights up and holding turns traction control fully off, but the errors a little concerning.

Can anyone explain the error?

i have no idea but i didn't get that error on mine..... and if i did id have reversed it personally....

Thanx dude. I'll give you a shout when I'm ready. :thumbsup:

Did my first trackday with M-Track yesterday.. Wow!
As said, why didn't they have this as std. Amazing help on track.

Ended up having it on all the time, instead of switching all off as usual.
Could relax a fair bit more and focus on everything else.

Falkenberg Racetrack this.

Thanx again to this thread!

Bringing up an old post, but looking at getting the MTrack mode on the Z4MR this summer.

I want to get it correct, and what Beedub posted makes sense. Was this ever fully resolved, ie what needs changing to get full fat MTrack, and not just the 3.0 Si version? It doesn't seem as simple as simply changing

TRAKTIONDIFFERENZREGELUNG = aktiv

I know for example one setting is different between the Coupe which has the CSL rack, than the Roadster so

LENKWINKELKENNLINIE_2 = wert_04 for Coupe and wert_05 for Roadster.

I would like to understand these entries, mentioned by Beedub. In brackets is the setting for the standard M3, not in brackets is CSL/CS

UEBERSTEUERN_MUE_1_2 = wert_11 (wert_09)
UNTERSTEUERSCHWELLE_2 = wert_04 (wert_05)
UNTERSTEUERN_MUE_1_2 = wert_03 (wert_02)

Whilst researching, also seen mention of these settings

DTC_LAMPE = aktiv (nicht_aktiv) as we dont have the M Track symbol on the dash, I belive we need this set to nicht aktiv, which it may be by default anyway

PRE_MSR = aktiv (nicht_aktiv) - unsure what this is
BAUART_MK60 = csl (coupe_m or cabrio_m) - ?
DRUCKMODELL_HINTERACHSE = typ_3 (typ_2) - typ 3 is for ZCP brakes - I know we have CSL discs, but does a Z4M have ZCP calipers? (I am thinking yes, as the rear caliper on the Z4M is the same part number as the CSL, and has a larger piston than a standard M3)

FWIW just noted the m3 guys are able to get the actually M-TRAK light , some are getting the DTC light, but it seems this light can be activated too, anyone tried this one the z4m platform ??? guessing our cluster may not have that bulb.

http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showthread.php?t=38098&page=3

also to get the DTC set so its actually cutting in and out at he CSL spec M track we need to change these settings.. to these but they appear different in our data, so I'm not totally sure what we are activating in our instance but its definitely not the higher thresholds that the CSL have without changing the below... we seem to just be adding in the function from the 3.0Si which id guess isn't optimised for the M-diff...

UEBERSTEUERN_MUE_1_2 - wert_11
UNTERSTEUERSCHWELLE_2 - wert_04
UNTERSTEUERN_MUE_1_2 - wert_03

all info in the above thread.

turning on TDR isn't changing any values of the understeer oversteer cut in and outs i don't think, but not sure how to check???

is this a way to check the valves for the DTC mode?? and where do i change them, i can see the above germans sentences in the mk 60 module but how do we know if thats for the traction fully on, DTC , or the OFF mode settings?

Edit... after reading up on DTC we are definitely at a high wheel slip allowance.. so will try some different settings and report back,.

I recently came across a place that do the recoding remotely called http://www.codemycar.com/

They can also do a whole heap of other things.

They are based in the USA.

Well it's raining today and I've just had a play with M Track Mode enabled. In this mode DSC doesn't cut power when the wheels spin in a straight line. It also allows some slip so you can get the car sideways and it will still allow full power - until a threshold is reached. I'm not sure what the angle is, but it does allow a fair amount! Obviously you should use this mode on a race track and I can't recommend it be used on the road :D This mode is what our cars have been screaming out for and I've no idea why BMW don't enable it from factory!

I'm wondering whether this is actually just DTC and not M Track Mode. Googling both seems to suggest they are similar anyway. Either way, this mode makes the car much more driveable, especially in the wet. Obviously disabling DSC gives the best experience, but for those of us not skilled enough enough to drive with it disabled, this mode is an excellent half way house.

So to enable it on your car. The procedure is relatively straightforward and assumes you are relatively proficient using Microsoft Windows...

Firstly you need to purchase the correct cable and obtain the software. This can be found on eBay and some sellers also provide a DVD with all of the necessary software. Buying one with the software supplied might be the best choice if you're not overly comfortable installing drivers and software in Windows. The cable required is a BMW OBD Diagnostics cable but check the one you get works with the Z4 (E85). It needs to use the K-Line protocol, but you could get a cable which supports the newer DCAN protocol too (in case you upgrade to a newer BMW and wish to future proof yourself). You also need to ensure the DATEN files are relatively new. I think v50.2 had the last revision of changes for the E85. Perhaps check with the supplier which version they are sending you.

The software you need to use is NCS Expert and there are lots of guides online explaining how to use it to add Option Codes to your cars Vehicle Order (VO) list (i.e. to retrofit features), or to code changes to existing modules (i.e. enable remote roof opening/closing, beep on lock etc.)

Once you have NCS Expert installed and working, you need to enable TDR on the MK60.C20 module:

Connect the cable to your car's OBD port and turn on the ignition...
1. Load NCS Expert.
2. Load an ExpertMode profile with Manipulation enabled.
3. Hit “FG/ZCS/FA” - might be "VIN/ZCS/FA" depeding on your NCS Expert version
4. Press “ZCS/FA f. ECU”
5. Select E85 in the box that pops up
6. Click OK with AKMB highlighted
7. FG and FA field will populate after a few seconds
8. Press Back
9. Click “Process ECU”, highlight the MK60 module and click OK
10. Change CBD-Name MK60.C10 to MK60.C20 and Click OK
11. Click "Change Job" and choose CODIERDATEN_LESEN
12. Click “Execute Job”
13. Browse to C:\NCSEXPER\WORK
14. Look for FSW_PSW.TRC and open it in notepad.

Look for:

TDR
nicht_aktiv

and delete the nicht_ leaving just aktiv

15. Save the file as “FSW_PSW.MAN” - (make sure it's not called FSW_PSW.MAN.TXT)
16. Click "Change Job" and choose SG_CODIEREN
17. Click "Execute Job"

NCS will then code your car and you should see "Coding Ended". Then turn your iginition off/on and pressing DSC will enable the DTC lamp (M Track Mode) and holding will disable DSC altogether.

There are lots of guides online which explain using NCS Expert in more detail, and it might be a good idea to read these and get more familiar before you attempt this yourself.

Largely thanks to this post by Meeko and a link that TomK sent me a few months ago, I managed to code M Track Mode today as well as coding out the Dynamic Brake Assist and activating triple flash turn signals.

The M Track Mode is bloody brilliant! It allows unlimited spinning at the rear wheels whilst preventing power-on oversteer when turning with too much throttle applied. Consequently, there is no more bogging down with the DSC light flashing when pulling away hard, instead it allows the driver to meter the amount of rear wheel slip with the throttle, but without losing the safety net of DSC. It's perfect for fast road driving (although I've only tested it in the dry so far).
I'll try it on my next track day, but I suspect I'll end up switching DSC off completely as I usually do so as to keep the brakes cool as well as to allow me to have complete control of the car (at least until the moment when I don't anymore and I hit the wall :lol: )

I’ve managed to avoid it so far in fifteen years of track driving, but there’s always next time! I did my first track day here in Aus a couple of weeks ago. In the morning a Huracan hit a wall breaking both of the driver’s wrists and in the afternoon one of the guys I work with span off causing $50K of damage to his F80 M3... :o

Sounds like a great upgrade, I will check if B & M in Glasgow can do this.

They do, I gave them the instructions from here a couple of years ago and Douglas got his coder to do it.
