M Retrofit Cruise Control (again)

My cowl arrived today so there good for there word. 
The only downside i have noticed apart from what i have allready said there is now a small earth wire bolted to the earthing point under the bonnet. Looks a bit cheap like someone has fitted a stereo a little more thought for the earth would have been nice.
But still a cheap mod and good value imo.

The way the factory fitted cruise control (on my Canadian car) works is:Animal said:
Push forward to set speed to current speed. If the speed is already set, tapping forward increases speed in 1km/h increments, holding causes continuous acceleration until released or rev limiter or maximum governed speed is reached in that gear. Minimum speed cruise control will set at is 30km/h (My speedometer reads 33km/h, but the GPS says 30km/h). It can be set in any gear.
Tap backwards to decrease speed in 1km/h decrements, hold to decrease until released or speed reaches a minimum of 30km/h.
Tap up or down to cancel cruise control, this can also be accomplished by pressing the brake or clutch pedal.
After a cancel has happened, the resume (memory) button returns speed to speed set when stalk was last pushed forward or pulled back.
Pressing the accelerator increases the speed but doesn't change the cruise control set point, when released the car returns to the speed that was set when stalk was last pushed forward or pulled back.

It's primitive compared to newer beemers, but still well worth it! After holding minus to deacceleration, on letting go it dumps quite a lot of throttle in, not exactlly subtle. It'll do.
Today i worked out how the memory works the bit you press in that has the speedo picture on it.
When your happy with your set speed press the knob in when you have to brake or accelerate after that when safe to do so press the knob in again and speed resumes at the speed you first set it at.
If you wish to cancel set speed press lever down or up.

I agree the movements aren't subtle.

No indicator for the cruise control on a Z4M, for the factory fitted ones.spareone3 said:ucb said:Mine's fitted.

My E46 320d has a light on the dash which indicates when the cruise control is switched on...strange that a car derived from it does not :?

Good to see there are only 2 specialist in the country who can do the retro lol.....Shame BMW have currently run out of the kits at the moment! ho hum!
Just a quick update on this thread. I went down to Forza West in Chepstow on Saturday morning to have cruise control fitted on my Z4MC. It took Stuart less than 2 hours to install and looks completely factory-fitted; worked perfectly on the drive back to London. I'm sure it'll prove to be a godsend later on in the month driving on the dull autoroutes of Northern France on our way down South to the twisty exciting stuff!

Try driving a Z4M from Barcelona to Glasgow in one go and you'll wish you had cruise. Trust me, I did and I wished the original buyer had specced it. You can't drive it flat out all the time, no problem that I can see with having cruise control in any car.

Why buy a Zed unless it's an M would be my answer to that!?
At the end of the day, people use their cars for different reasons, i very rarely get the opportunity to hit the twisties, but cruise is a fantastic option for those long motorway miles!
