M market watch

If it does go through someone seems to have got a bit of a bargain!

Although the next owner may want to invest in new bearing shells and will need to get the rear brake pipes replaced soon.

I got an alert for this MC which looked like a bargain:- https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202208138756153?postcode=gu470za&sort=datedesc&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=Used&radius=1500&advertising-location=at_cars&model=Z4%20M&make=BMW&page=1

Then I read about owner servicing since 2014 - might be a good buy, but might not!

You'd probably get a better idea meeting the owner.

Think the CAT N marker, listed right at the end, would be the killer.

He’s edited the Ad. I read it last night, and said something along the lines of, the car was stolen then recovered and registered as CAT N.

I’m sure I wasn’t dreaming. As ever, best for a car vertical or similar check for its history. Happy to be proven wrong. Don’t want to ruin someone’s sale!!

I remember seeing that too matt. it's easy to check on line or with a text check. you can't hide these things.

a CAT registered car is going to fetch 20-25% less than a non reg car.

given the mileage and condition I would say this is about right as it should get 20-22 if it were not registered

prices are softening that for sure as toys like cars and luxury items like watches are feeling the pinch too.

My Z4M will be self-maintained except for complex stuff like valve clearances and bearing shells. I've been taking advantage of the dry weather to undertake a complete suspension overhaul.

Hopefully when it comes time to sell, buyers will be able to tell the difference between a skinflint who's skimped on maintenance versus an enthusiast owner who enjoys working on their P+J.

I've put my Silverygrey MR up for sale which I've had for the last three years if anyone is interested, I've done a huge amount of work to it over my time with it, most of which is listed in the ad

cars like yours are in better shape than garage queens owned by those who just like nice things.

You sir are clearly a gentleman and a scholar with impeccable taste in cars. Fellow Londoner here, and proud owner of a Liquid Yellow Clio 182 and a 1997 Impreza alongside my Z4.

I posted on your service-history thread. If you'd a nose around my car and/or another pair of eyes when viewing, just shout.

Not sure if I’ve copied the link correctly but what are peoples thoughts on the imola red Z4m currently on Autotrader at £22,795? Been up for sale for quite a while and priced as reduced from £24,995. It is an ex forum car previously owned by ‘status’.

My ideal colour combination!

I'd be sorely tempted if I didn't already have one.

Not exactly a bargain but it's no longer silly money, and buying from a trader is always likely to cost more.

Agree with Mr Tidy, it looks tidy (excuse the pun). Nothing better than seeing it in the flesh to see if there’s any obvious reason what they’ve not moved the car on as it’s been advertised a while or with it being a bit of niche car dare I say it’s just been waiting for the right owner?

Hmmm , no
Iffy history at top money are 2 ingredients that rarely mix well & right now any dealers sat on these cars need to have a serious think that come 2023 would they rather be sat on the car or the cash

Thanks Mr Wilks, when you say Iffy history are you privy to some knowledge that’s not obvious? Only asking as ‘status’ did post a copy of the service book when he had it up for sale last year.

I have just put my black Z4MC up on auto trader so see how it goes. the market has softened a lot and what you would expect with sports cars and other luxury items.

FSH (dealer and indy) plus recent brakes and pads as well as bottom end shell refresh with King race shells, new engine mounts, ARP race bolts, new steering wheel, gear knob, CSL style intake and remap plus lots of stuff really to get it back to good health.

Iffy as in what has or hasn't been done in terms of following the correct sequence & who has carried out the servicing .
At top money a buyer should want all the ducks in a row , at average money buyers can often get over certain blips , at low money history that isn't " perfect " is excusable .
It looks a lovely car ( which no doubt it is ) & in a usually much sought after colour so why has failed to sell either privately or via a dealer ?

Thanks - plenty of valid points to consider. Shame as it’s the colours combo and wheels that attracted me.
