Well I did buy her an Mx5 last month.

That seems a pretty hefty price for a roadster to me? I know when I was going through all the classified and eBay auctions in early Nov, £20,000 would get you a really nice E86 M with pretty low miles on the clock.

Not trying to take anything away from the roadster, but I saw something pretty similar going for £16,000 just over a month ago and I thought now is the worst time of year, market wise to be selling a roadster?

I think they’ve been looking at the market in Europe, especially Germany / Holland / Austria / Switzerland etc.... where these cars fetch considerably more than the 20k advertised here...

The Roadster’s been long overdue a price adjustment... this may be well OTT right now though come summer I’d laugh if we looked back to say ‘that was a bargain at 20k’

£20k seems a huge ask to me too, I would think closer to £17k at this time of the year, maybe £18k at a push (although it's knocking on 50k). Lets see how long it hangs around!

I own an MR but this is the wrong time to be getting top dollar for one, although I bought mine in January :driving:

Just noticed this, it seems pretty good value, assuming the brakes and service history are up to scratch?

This has been on my radar.

Had a quick MOT check on this and doesn't look like its had too much love failing 4 MOTs and all for mostly the same problems. Headlight washer issues, its had a low disk/corrosion and low pad warning since 2010, tyre wall damage and low tread on nearly every MOT, brake pipe corrosion etc

Not seen headlight washer issues before, could mean a possible bump in the past? or is this common?

Minor things but doesnt give too much confidence, wonder what the history is like, ive inquired and waiting to hear back. It says on the ad well cared for... what ever that means. If it checks out will go have a look.

Headlamp washer bottles can gum up from stale water leaving a scummy film Tom, doesn’t take much to block the pump or pipes.

Thanks john seems its been an issue for the car since 2011 probably needs a good clean. Looks like the car needs a bit of love and if checks out could be a nice motor

My headlight washer on my old 3.0si coupe had broken, didn’t realise until the MOT. Reason being the pipe had split and when under pressure, the water wouldn’t make it out the nozzle.

I think the older these cars get , the less frequent use with headlights on & more problems will become common with both the pop up washer units & the self level ballasts on xenon lights . Ive had a few problems on similar vein with recent E85 E86 & additionally it probably doesnt help at this age that most will have had bumpers removed for various jobs , some have been dealt with roughly & possibly not connected up with care ?
No surprise that older cars will develop different quirks we aren't used to seeing :(

Cheers MW! Appreciate the response it makes a lot of sense.

I’ve been tempted once again by a 981 Boxster GTS, as a result I may look at selling my Z4M (again).

They seem to be advertised for strong money on Pistonheads. I wonder if £19,000 might be worth a go, or if it’s pushing it a bit?

2006 Z4M Roadster
45k miles
Monaco Blue with Light Sepang Bronze leather
Extended leather with carbon leather dash
Always garaged – SORN over winter
Heated seats
Bluetooth
Parking sensors
Full service history at BMW or specialist including Inspection 2 two years ago (hence now due an oil service).
Etc.
Recently had front bumper, rear bumper and side skirts professionally resprayed, so the paintwork is mint with no stone chips.
Will include a new oil service and brake fluid change at Iridium.

What do you reckon?

No history for the past 7 years, I wouldn't describe it as "well cared for"! Only positive is it only covered about 15k miles in that time. It also annoys me that its described as having 70k miles and yet Tom says the last MOT in June 18' it had 71434 miles. :x

Dan, when I was looking for a Z4MR last autumn, your car would have been spot on what I was trying to find in terms of colour scheme. However I would have baulked at the price I'm afraid.

For reference I bought 2006 Z4MR on 43k miles in black with sepang leather and carbon dash. Not the extended leather and no satnav, but neither of these I think add greatly to value but may add to saleability. I paid £14750 with an extra set of 19" CSL wheels and tyres thrown in (approx £500?) . Car was full history and well looked after and a private sale. The only negative was the (original) tan coloured hood which isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I don't think that the market has moved drastically over the winter. As always, there is no harm in trying, but you may have to wait a fair time for the market to pick up and possibly sunnier days to help with the roadster.
