M market watch

It doesn't annoy me, but I am surprised the Z4 MC has taken off like this :?

I can understand it with the likes of the 911 or M3's that have always been poster cars with big motor-sport reputations and top reviews, but for all it's great points the MC doesn't stack up to that sort of iconic reputation. Maybe it's a 'tulip' bubble caused by the market talking up values (on threads like this  )

Money is going into any vehicle that's collectable..

The crap economy and miserable interest rates for savers have made people look elsewhere to put their spare cash..
Better to have something beautiful in your garage that you can use and may even make you a few quid, than paying for some bankers Ill deserved bonus.

I guess if they sell it, but for a lesser amount without gen public knowing, it looks as though that spec/mileage etc is worth £50k... so actually helps all those that have an ///M coupe?

Hopefully one rogue garage pound pinching to boost their coffers won't affect the market in general. There needs to be perspective placed on this, the average Joe with a MC won't be instantly able to add thousands to their sale price as a substantial price increase places the MC into a whole new league of competition from other marques, many buyers may then choose to rule out a MC in favor of the others cars. Anything about £25k and you're competing against similar aged 911's and the Lotus Exige etc. It's all subjective but many people may prefer the prestige value of a 911 over a BMW. Which in turn could be detrimental to current owners.

Very valid point. Be interesting to see the market, and this thread, in the next 12 months!

The bubble will burst in spectacular fashion and a lot of folks will get their fingers burned. Prices were right 18 months ago; if you're looking to sell then I'd suggest you get on with it as there's probably never been a better time. I really hope nobody on here gets stung!
:D

 Lock! To be fair I don't think any of us M owners actually care, I don't think anyone brought their car as an 'investment' as such or expect to make a profit from it, the added value at the moment is merely a bonus :D There's been quite a few reasonably priced M's for sale recently on the forum so I don't think it's making that much difference anyway. I'm just glad I ditched my slow 3.0si for an M last year when the prices were right :poke:

Ditto. I've put 14k+ miles on mine in a year, and I couldn't care less. In fact going by market rates it's still worth at least what I paid for it :)

That is because you only paid the deposit on it ...

As above I purchased mine in July 2012 and going by current market rates Id break even or possibly make a bit of money despite putting 15k miles on in that time with minimal outlay.

Cant believe how quick that year has gone and it only seems like yesterday when you got it. :)

I know, it'll be a year on the 27th. Just looking into renewing my insurance, road tax last month, 9,500 smiles to its first inspection 2 ( ). Loving it. And the roof hasn't been up since about 1030 last Saturday morning, except when parked outside over night at the weekend. This thread is interesting reading, but I'm not even close to even possibly considering selling it so its all academic really.

I've just had a bizarre insurance experience. I insured the M for £190 through eSure in January. I just did another random spontaneous quote on their website for me, same details, same car (i was gonna see how modifications affected the premium) and using the exact same details with no mods, they refused to quote me! I was redirected to their sister site, and they refused me due to too few no claims bonus!! So hang on, just f*cking hang on a second here. I'm legally enforced to buy insurance, but should I need to use it ever, you'll refuse to insure me because I needed to use you even though I paid to use you?! Wow. Just, WOW.

That's weird :?

I am taking my business away from CK as they quoted me £48 more for my renewal. I'm not even calling them, I can get it way cheaper elsewhere.
