M market watch

I'm not sure it's a great investment at that price unless you buy it and simply don't drive it for 15 years... Though it's in mint condition.

Isn't that the JayK car that was up for £30k a few weeks ago?

Wow....3500 miles...think this is a great buy for anyone considering an investment. Must be the lowest out there?

this is LF78960

I honestly think fuel economy and prices are irrelevant to most people who buy these cars - lower prices are welcome, but when I bought mine I didn't even really think about the higher cost of fuel, I just bought it. And I will be doing up to 15k a year in mine. Bemoaning the cost of fuel or low mpg is missing the point. I don't think lower fuel prices will last, and I don't think lower prices are tempting people into thirstier cars - though I haven't done any statistically relevant research :D

Very true, but people sometimes like to use something to justify it to themselves. A mate has just gone from a Diesel to Petrol stating "why not, we're at 2009 levels". I do doubt lower fuel prices has much of an impact on prices however, especially on this type of car.

Buyers and especially collectors will always prefer the last model year of a cars run.

I've always owned older BMW's and obviously have my Z4 history but there is a part of me thinking "what?" when I see the prices at the moment. As I'm getting older I am just seeing cars as aging metal and mechanicals. I bought my last car in hindsight at a very good price considering the current market but if I owned one and prices of a 2-3 year old current model cayman or boxster went below 30k and Z4M's hold their current value, I'd be very tempted to switch. The equiv Porsches of the Z4 M era I thought were rubbish but current is what the current Z4 should be competing with and a big advantage is the much lower weight (even over the Z4 M)

Just providing my thoughts and of course have been interested to read those of others :)

Firm prices are also helped because there is no replacement in the current Z4 range. If you want an M with all the M related bits, there is no new model range pressing the prices down.

If there had been an E89 M model, the E85/E86 prices might have suffered a bit more.

But 3 year old Boxter S are more like 38 to 40k meaning a 20k cost to change . Tend to agree that the 981 Boxter S is a logical update from an M .

Saw it at Fort Kinnaird in Edinburgh. But as he was too busy revving the nuts off it and spinning the tyres up near a pedestrian crossing I couldn't quite make out the colour of the rear discs
Joker - I hope! *Edit- don't answer that - found relevant forum post*
Also, at least two of the wheels need a refurb apparently. Dealer will be doing that soon.

In what way ?
Small two seater German sportscar that the old Z4 used to compete with (and was better than).
Comparing new Cayman to Z4 M Coupe:
£48k basic spec S model gets you the following where Z4 M was what £40k new?
325bhp
Nearly 9 years newer(based on earliest M's),
0 miles
0 owners,
40% aluminium body
33% stiffer body
best part of 10mpg better fuel economy (not far off 45% better)
best part of 180kg lighter (crucial IMO - the old Z4 M was a bit heavy)
probably half the annual road tax
safer in case of a crash (probably! :) )
5000 to 7000 more miles between services (service intervals are at 20k miles in later Boxster/Cayman)
Fabulous sound (expecially with sports exhaust)

Not that I've been doing any research or anything :). It is the modern Z4 M and there's even an Si equivelant.
As future used cars, if the Z4 M holds it's value these will look attractive as they get cheaper

The old 987S 3.4 was a better alround car than the zed, so what's new?

Still nothing like the same appeal, electric steering is totally dead, still feels held back and lacking torque. Nothing like the same appeal to me. It's all too effortless and uninvolving. A 987S with a GT3 engine, that might work. I've driven most variants of the 991 too, you get plenty of grunt, but it really does feel like a big GT car, almost Jag like. GT3 excluded!

All technically brilliant, though of course.

so is the market price going down over time? could be winter blues?

market is going up.......I reckon I've lost out by £500 since I sold my coupe....

I think the economy is helping, as I track quite a few other performance cars and they're all enjoying a bit of a resurgence....

E46 M3s are typically £1 to 1.5k more than what they were about 1 year to two years ago, and that's becoming two years older!! (Not talking about dogs here, good clean cars with SH)
Dc5s holding firm considering how old they are.
335i m sports....
S2000 has really enjoyed a resurgence.....
Lexus ISFs, use to be around 16.5k to 18k for a 2008/2009 plate, now it's 19k to 24k!

Lexus ISFs sound similar to Z4MCs.....2 years ago when I was looking £18k was basically where the market topped out, it had to be seriously special to be in the £20k's....

If this is true and the trend continues then the Forum is going to have to review its rule about not selling for more than you paid??

Some already try that:

wowza, that's quite a return in just a few months (if it sells for +£2,000 more than paid for).

DannyG has done similar with his MCs. Fair play to 'em I say
