£22,850 for a 2007 40k miles black coupe. Crazy.

That's the car Jimbob had for sale on here wasn't it?
Think private sellers need to start asking a higher price if dealers are selling them quickly at this huge mark up!

Ncrossy1980, the garage putting the wrong oil in is horrendous. I'd try and negotiate a discount and change it ASAP or get them to change it with documentation.

at the price he's paid he's getting exactly what i expected tbh, hopefully he can bring it back to form glory but its not in the best condition... i mean theirs a sticker on the slam panel clearly outlining what oil to put in their, id be concerned about a Renault dealer doing its service, that type of history is not good, bmw or a good specialist. will the 10w40 hurt it?? i see no reason why it would but its probably cheap as s**t stuff they use for the twingo's.

Still a decent price and get what you pay for. It's not much more than the black wheeled one for sale on here :) and has lower miles
Anyway, now he's gone to collect it, can I just say "what a shed" :)
Only kidding!

I would get the oil changed as soon as. It wouldn't do any harm at normal revs for a few miles.

No biggie just throw it back at them and tell them you want a years warranty thrown in for half price
Ask them how they managed to ignore the oil sticker on the front of the engine bay ,ie what else have they managed not to do correctly ?

I had to fly to Cornwall to collect the Abarth as that deal was the best at the time :D

Except that due to snow we landed about 50 miles in the wrong airport :o

I had to travel all the way into London and back out again to get mine, on a train, then I got collected by the seller in a beatle and was forced to go on a driving lesson before I could leave. Man, that was hard work

:D

That engine bay is shocking, but it will clean up. I tried to get some 10w-60 from my local sc motor factors and they didn't even have any in stock. It seems specific effort is needed to source it, but still no excuse.

Yea the oil is sorted now, I demanded them change it to 10w60 or deals off. It's just frightening to think that if I hadn't had the nuts to call the indie garage who advised me on the oil, I'd have taken it away and drove the next xxxx miles with the wrong grade oil in. To be fair though they've done a remarkable job tidying up the interior, but the oil error was ridiculous.

Yep, thats my car, still sat on my drive until Monday when they pick it up. To be honest, I was happy with what they gave me for it and if they can sell it at that price good look to them and everyone else that owns one. I don't think I would have had too many takers if I'd tried to sell it at £19K with no sat nav and insp II looming.

One thing I'm sure of is that in a couple of years, low mileage examples will be changing hands at £30K. I should have stuck it in the garage and borrowed the money for my next car.

So out of curiosity - when a dealer 'buys' a car off you to sell it - does a person get more than trade in value?? :?

Tell me what the trade in value is and I will tell you.

CAP says £12.5 for average condition (2007 with 48k miles)

Thing is, the dealer will get the Inspection 2 done at little cost to them but would be £900-1200 to a private owner. Then throw warranty in on top and fixing anything that is broken. All cheap to the dealer. Still a big markup on it though if they get £22,850 for it and assuming you might have received around £16k for it. However I reckon if someone offered them £20k for they might be interested.

If prices rise much more I'll be tempted to just price up a new poverty spec Cayman S and be done with that.I love the Ee8/86 but it would be brand new ,lighter, higher/newer tech engine (more more efficient)

They gave me very nearly £4K more than the CAP value. Little jobs to do would be things like sorting out the numerous rattles which could easily put off a private buyer.

EDIT:Ah, just realised that you meant you got 4k more than the CAP price for it

Wow!!!! I saw your £19k figure and wondered but thought you were more likely saying that you would struggle to even get £19k privately for it!
Very happy for you, that is a v.good price!

No No, I might as well spill the beans to avoid confusion and theres no reason for it to be secret. I got £16250.

Why do they offer more than trade in value for it? :?

I got offered £12k for my zed when I was looking at the new M4. Wasn't at all keen, knowing I could sell private for c.£17k.

So in theory if a dealer bought my car, I could expect £16k ish?? I reckon my motor as an AUC would sell for c.£20k

I can only assume most people have/want one car so dealers/traders take advantage of that (and the convenience to the buyer) - buying a new car means a simultaneous forced sale for most.
Also, being rarer cars the blue book value (or CAP) goes out the window - supply and demand affects the prices. You might have a better change now if you talked to the dealer again, one that has recognised an increased demand, but by the time your M3 was delivered the demand for the Z4 could have changed again so they have to factor that in too.

Also, you think you could get £17k but in reality would you? how much hassle would it be? dealing with time wasters costs time. Time is either money or wasted time of life (unless you enjoy that). Jimbob might never have got £16250 pivately but might have had to entertain time wasters.

People generally prefer to buy from dealers - I know I do for this kind of car where I might have to travel to get it. Any issues in first 12 months and it goes into any dealer to get fixed, assuming the issue is covered by the warranty.

£12k against a £57k+ car was kinda crap though  unless you could hard to get a discount on the new one (or some free upgrades)

I don't know your mileage but I reckon you could expect more with the spec of your car. I priced my car to sell, bearing in mind the only extras were heated seats and that service insp II was next. Plus I paid £17K for it with a BMW warranty so I've had the pleasure of running it for 8 months for minimum outlay.

These cars have all the ingredients to be classics and if you have a good one you should hang on. I had a life changing event 3 months ago which prompted me to sell ahead of plan to achieve my boyhood dream of owning a newish 911, maybe even a turbo.

When Sytner made the offer I knew it was a guaranteed sale with no messing. That does count for a fair bit in my book as I hate selling cars. It also means I can go looking for my 911 with cash and no trade in.

Interestingly I thought I would by a 911 private and cut out the middle man, but when you look there are next to no private sellers and one person has actually said they would rather trade in (and get less) than sell to a private buyer.

My mileage is 50,500 or something like that. Excellent spec, only real thing missing is cruise.

Condition is tip top. Did you call the dealer about the sale, or did they come to you...?

Advert went on Pistonheads on Thursday night and Sytners buyer was ringing me at 07:30 Friday morning. Made a silly offer which I rejected then rang me back 20 mins later with the offer I accepted.

The thing they were interested in was the low mileage and the fact that is was a BMW AUC 8 months earlier.
