M market watch

is it because it is ugly?
Looks are subjective. I like them but not everybody does. They are a bit of an acquired taste.

My view on the Z4M Coupe is that someone with enough dollar for a good one will most likely go for a 911 instead.

The 911 also has rear seats, and although they aren’t really catered for adults, they are adequate for young kids or can be used as extra luggage space.

I went for a Z4MC because it wasn't a 911 or Cayman or M3.

At the time, a similar age/mileage 911 or Cayman was 2-4x the price and every boy racer had an e46 M3 (I did look at a CSL, but the closest in price was about 25% more expensive for a 60,000 mile example vs my 9,600 mile Z4MC)...and I prefer something a little less common ;)

Between 2006-2008 there were about 30,000 Caymans manufactured worldwide (c.6,000 just for the European market), vs c.90,000 911s, vs c.4,500 Z4MC. Even if you halve the 911 numbers to allow for coupes only, that's still 10x more common.

I bought my first E86 because I'd always thought they looked great. I had never owned a 2 seater before and I loved how it felt like you sat in the seat rather than on it and just in front of the rear axle. 6 months later I bought an E46 325ti Compact as a daily and while I loved it the E86 always felt much more of a sports car.

So when I was considering an M it had to be an MC - another E46 didn't interest me. I knew it would be subject to the M tax, but the Porsche tax would probably cause far more wallet damage!

Z4Ms are the cheapest way to get that fantastic S54 engine. :D

Less common... Yes I agree. Only 920 or so RHD roadsters were ever made for the world and i have one. This makes them very rare but the flip side is.... a sales failure compared to boxster s I suppose.

Z4M (in either guise) V Boxster, Cayman, 911 is always a natural comparison. All things being equal I would have gone for a Cayman or a 997 911 over my MC, truth known I was too nervous of the associated bills if the porker got into trouble. Yes, I know the S54 has its vulnerabilities but to me more of a known quantity, plus to keep the wife onside I needed to weigh up preventative costs V O shite bills!

If they dropped one zero off the price, it would indeed be the perfect one. Rather have my 911 at that price level though

That price is ludicrous, who in their right mind is going to pay that, even if you had more money than sense. That’s CSL or nearly GT3 money. Not a strong colour either. Hexagon always seem find these sort of prices though. Crazy.

Haha yes i was joking.

It is ludecrous but in the world of hammered E46 cars probably very rare. I like Titanium silver, not particularly inspiring but suits the car. Silver grey with red leather would be my pic. Considering you can find 30k cars for about 35k this looks very expensive.

It was last sold in September 2025 for £90,000 - which is fair given the mileage.

£120,000 is too steep though.

Maybe it’s because apparently audio cassettes are coming back in??

My first X5 had the rotating satnav screen where the casette was behind it. Never put one in though as in 2005 it was already history

Suprising for the cost they havent replaced the soft-touch plastics that have nicks and scratches. It also looks to have its original tyres... maybe they are worth something to be original if it doesn't go on the road. Otherwise they will likely kill you 😅

Alpine White MC with imola red interior for sale, 26k miles, £29,995, similar to the one I sold last year- 1 of 3 in the UK with white/ red combo.

Do you regret selling yours?
I’d love a white ZMC. I just wonder if the chase is better than the catch? I saw a white 3.0si coupe and felt a bit let down seeing it in person.

Yes I do a bit, even though I’m not a fan of white cars it looked stunning with the genuine csl’s and aero side skirts.. I did contemplate keeping it but in the end couldn’t justify having two of them….sepang is my no.1 favourite so I’m happy to have made the switch. I’ve always thought that photos don’t do alpine white justice - the white really pops and shows off the lines, sorry to hear you were a bit underwhelmed!
