M Car

Having picked it up Saturday and done 500 ish miles in it. I now believe M stands for Muscle, I'm not used to having so much power under my right foot and feel very privileged to be driving such a machine. I definitely made the right choice over the Boxster S and I'm glad I'm selling the VX220 because the BMW is more intoxicating more of the time. It seems the angle of the gas pedal is a direct correlation to the angle of the car :D

Although I will miss the VX220s rawness and handling finesse when the moment calls.

Congrats on they new ///M they are wee beasties aren't they. :driving: Have I missed the pics?

Good, just checking before I call it an M car and someone bites my head off. :)

Apparently the M135i is not a proper M car and the BMW 1 series M coupe they made in limited numbers isn't a proper M car either so I was interested in what made it a proper M car if BMW putting an M badge on it doesn't always count.

Whoever said the 1M isn't a proper M car has no clue what they are talking about! It's the first of the new breed of FI M engines which some purists don't like but none the less, still built by the M division so therefor an M car.

The M135 and M235 are most certainly not M cars. No motorsport pedigree at all. Just a clever marketing ploy by BMW.

Perfectly put

In my book anything with and M engine from the factory is definitely an M car

Enjoy

My 35is has a M engine :poke:

I have done some research on this and the 1M is the same (N54T with forged internals)

Not an 'S' derivative engine, so doesn't count :poke:

Lovely car without doubt  Is that extended leather (stitching on the visors)? 8)

Yeah, it has leather all over the interior. Love the chunky steering wheel, even if it is a little tatty after 9 years of use.

whereas every single other 'real' M car uses 'S' series engines (i.e. S14, S50, S52, S54, etc) which are designed specifically for each model
I'm gonna punch a tiny hole in that theory: S50B30US
(thats a tuned m50 (cams/pistons/crank), but specifically tuned for the not so much loved US versions of the e36m3 and early z3m's)

I generally try to stick to the speed limit, just spirited country road driving.

It's not how fast it's how fast you get there.

Yeah, I must admit I was at the top of 2nd fairly often. I love heel and toeing in this thing as it sounds mega. I'm missing the handling of the VX220 though.
