Luton airport

Anyone else prepared to put a fiver on it being an electric car that started the fire in the car park?

That was my initial thought but looking at the photos looks to have been a pretty intense fire and saying the building has partially collapsed  Guessing its going to be hard to find the cause unless any CCTV survives. They have said its accidental though.

Great end to your holiday :(

Tim.

Funnily enough my first thought was an EV.

The CCTV will be recorded on a server in a completely different building so, assuming there was a camera in the right spot (and the system was actually working - a relative rarity for these sort of things), we should find out.

We can add to that as it being a Chinese EV? Like the runaway "MG" models

Can't tell, but it doesn't look like it was parked? Driving in or out?

Is that a Discovery Sport (used to be the Freelander sized thing rather than a full sized Disco) in the picture?

Well spotted; I'd taken the beam pattern as the wall. Yes, deffo was on the move.

Fire likely started in a diesel car - fire chief

Fire chief Andy Hopkinson says it is thought the fire started with a diesel car, and then spread through the car park.

Insurance nightmare!
Every car insurance will try to claim off the building insurer.
The building insurer will try to claim off the initial car that caused it.

Then of course, all the argumdents start about whether the car is insured at all? Is it a public road? Etc, etc.

Not following your angle of not being insured? Car is insured no matter where it is (unless track day), but any private area where there is public access it is deemed part of the public highway.

It was just a query tbh. Thought it may be a grey area.
In fact it's now a very black area.

Well that would have been third on my list after electric and petrol.
Very odd.

Ditto, but actually, it sort of makes sense. A cold ICE car won't go up easily so this was likely on its way in. And Diesels love to make themselves really hot with DPF regens so if its just finished belting down the M1 in a flaming hurry I suppose it just takes a small fuel leak or even an oil leak to catch.

Saw the thread title....anyone else immediately think of Lorraine Chase... "Luton Airport!"?

Maybe I'm just showing my age!!
