Luke and his Z - Getting there!

Mate gutted for you!! I have had a few evening runs with the roof down. It's a job that need doing
Yeah hardtop off and back in the bag...can't beat roof-down driving :D

These last few days have been so nice  Hopefully by Friday afternoon ill be rolling topless again! :trampoline: :yeah:

Love the work on the exhaust Luke, with your skills, removing and effectively refurbing the roof motor will be a doddle. From what I've seen, plenty of rust sprays and a rubber mallet are your friend. Take some pics along the way if you get time :)

Is the exhaust noisy as hell now? Were you not tempted to leave some wadding in at least one compartment to quieten it down a little?

Well done on the exhaust and the M bumper Luke! Has anything been done by the bodyshop to tighten the gap between the pre fl facelights and the bumper? Looks good anyway, just curious...

Thanks RJS!
To be honest the exhaust sounds pretty much perfect to me with all the wadding out, 1 bypass pipe and the quad mod! If I was being picky I would want a little more burble on tick over but soon as the accelerator is touched it sounds gorgeous! IMO!

I've just downloaded Shipkiller's guides do soft top removal and roof motor removal an ill be going over these a few times this evening to be familiar with the procedure tomorrow!
Will take pics along the way. Have roped my old man in too to help and possibly one of my brothers if needed.

Will update tomorrow! Fingers crossed!
Only thing is I haven't been able to get hold of any loctite degreaser and cleaner. Nowhere has had any all week! :headbang: not been able to find any jizer either (another very good degreaser I have used in the past) :( will have to settle with WD40 to do the work. Will leave a film on the motor but I suppose that's not a bad thing anyways. Tis a water repellant after all!!

The only other thought I had was to use nail polish to do the job? The loctite stuff is based on acetone which is the base of nail polish too. Will do some research this evening and make my mind up by morning!!

Thanks Mau

To be honest I haven't really looked! I will see tomorrow and take a pic or two!
I haven't noticed the gap as it was before :?:

I did a little more work for the painters I use today. Installed some lock brackets i made for them to be able to lock their premises better and whilst I was there they were in the process of finishing the spoiler  they are off to Romania for 3 weeks though so I will have to wait till they are back to get the spoiler on. Ooh well! Patience is key!

Roof ready to come off! Took an hour to get to this stage!

Couple if things I've picked up...
First instruction on Shipkillers instructions is to remove the roof rubbers... You need to lift the top before you can do this! Took me 5 mins to figure this out!

I also found my Bowen cable! The red handle is missing though! Will make something today to sort that out!

All taped up and now ready to lift the roof off! :)
First time the roof had been down for months!! :yeah: pulled the broken cord and it released the hydraulics! TBH if I had of found this before hand I would of probably lived with doing it manually! I am glad though that I didn't and I have been forced to fix the problem!! Will hopefully be done by lunch!

So... Roof back on but testing is being a pain! Roof will go up fine and lock but will not unlatch or go down? Everything is wired up as it should be. It's not completely bolted back down yet though, would it be a sensor somewhere stopping it going back? HELP!!

Posted in your other thread.

That's what it ended up being mate! Soon as I pressed the switch in an tried to open the roof... Bingo! Sprung to life!! :yeah:

All done!!!!!

Found there were a few more connections that needed to come off than what was described in ShipKillers post and also that all the terminals were keyed so could only go on one way which was handy!!

Definitely more of a ball ache getting it back on and realigning everything again! But patience is the key! VERY happy!! Cost of new refurbed motor... £0!! :yeah:

Made it a little harder nor having an extra pair of hand though!! Dad and brother were both called elsewhere so had to borrow someone from the factory to help lift the top off!
Didn't help either that I had a meeting at 12:30 which lasted a couple of hours! By the time that was done my brother was back for a second so helped put the roof back in place then he shot off! Ended up using my head or shoulders as leverage points most of the time!!
