I thinks its great. Take a Z4 2 litre with a duff engine, that is destined to be scrapped and an LS engine and make it work. Seems a good deal as the 2 ltre is a little underpowered. Dont understand the nay sayers .................. Great project............

That's the strangest thing , I thought the forum would be really interested in this engine swap . Ls engine is cheap enough brand new in a crate delivered to your door , exceptionally reliable and will put out more power than a BMW v10 could ever dream of in a normal mans world-pocket .
Anyone with any mechanical knowledge must have looked at that huge engine bay in a z4 and thought that there's so much more could be done with that space , it's the first thing I bought when I bought my first z4

Buy a high miler, sort out the bodywork, replace the suspension, wheels, tyres and throw in a big engine and gearbox. Some new seats and a quad exhaust too. Add the clutch and the brakes too along with anything else it needs.
Might as well relocate the roof motor at the same time!
Are we looking at the future of decent but high mileage e85's?
What's the insurance on one of these?

Maybe , because they are getting to a point of not repairing if something big goes wrong . I know someone with one he wants a couple of grand for it , but its a dog....................

Usually pretty cheap. My Westfield I built had a value of £25k and cost me £160 to insure. You might be surprised , although this would be with specialist brokers. No different to what hot rods or similar would insure with.

Thats the thing. I doubt if there is much about as these have to be 'engineered built' , so its not like just bolting this to that. Usually involves, making a bracket to attach that bolt to a welded plate to the nut etc. There are some car build vlogs on youtube for other builds and also Retrorides is a great website for people who do similar things.
Yesterday I went to the Classic Car Show in London and so many cars are using the LS engines. From Range Rovers to a stunning Jensen FF. Its a great engine and very compact. Even a guy recently built a Westfield with one, which seems a bit lairy !
Saying the future of our cars, they were lots of electric conversion cars at the show. Including a VW flat bed , Beetle , Ferrari and Triumph Stag, to name a few. So maybe someone will convert a Zed ?
