Small black dots sound like tar spots to me….. .. so far better off using a good tar remover than clay to remove them...
I'm not saying don't clay... just don't use clay to remove tar... it's far better, faster and easier to use a dedicated tar remover for that purpose.
I decontaminate the car in 3 stages:
1) Tar remover where needed (I use Tardis)
2) Decontaminate gel to remove iron contaminants from the bodywork (Wolf's decon gel)
3) Final "mechanical" stage, the first 2 being chemical, is then my clay mitt... which is just like a clay bar, only lasts much longer...
