lots of warning lights

Today after dropping my disco off with an orange engine warning light at the garage - my other half turns up in my M which drove perfectly on the way to the garage. Turned the car on and i get three warning lights - the EML, one with a squiggle (sorry not the best tech description) and the orange engine light. The reeves where going up and down on their own and absolutley no power. Did the good old turn it off and on again and lost two of the warning lights, got left with the orange engine one. We had power, but it was a bit lack lustre - limped it to Sytners who cannot look at for 2 days. I am thinking it might be the coils but any thoughts. Fortuantly have an extended warranty so hopefully will not get stung with a bill for either.

Synters where fairly adamant that the car should not be driven with that orange light on and advised my warranty may be void if i go away and something serious happens (last time i had a coil go in my TT, it basically caught fire, melted and effected a valve and caused an enigne rebuild with no warranty) so left it there as somewhat over cautious, meant sticking the other half in a taxi to get him home though. The Landrover guys said fine to keep driving it, but do not thrash it or take it off road but it will be fine, worry if it goes red. Interesting that two manufacturers have different advice for a same coloured warnign light.

Fingers crossed they will both be an easy fix, hope it is not catching and other cars on the drive do not catch it

I would have thought the M engine is under a lot more stress than the TDV6 in a Disco 3......

Have you asked LR assist to supply you with a car if the disco is off the road for a couple of days..??

Had something similar to this earlier in the year. Turned car on and revs went up and down between 500 and 1500rpm; I didn't even touch the accelerator. Turned it off then on again and had the orange one (thought it was an emissions light, not sure though) left on. Took it to the garage and they said all it needed was a software update....very confused. Will be interesting to hear your diagnosis....

Isn't the rule if you call BMW Assist they have to deliver you a car ? Tony mentioned this before iirc..

I do not have the assist, have a few other cars and did not expect to have both in on the same day. Both are fixed, again on the same day, what a pain nice 70 mile trip picking up cars.

Anyway they managed to fix it today, but apparently there was nothing wrong with it. stressed the complete power loss and they said it was just one of those things. Bring it back if it happens again - just hope i do not lose power zipping down the outside lane of the M!

If i had not had a bmw warranty, wonder if they would have found something, or at least investigated further at my cost.
