Makes me smile when the BBC wheel out all the retired military bods to give a prediction on how this is going to pan out :roll:
But I do agree with what has been said this morning that NATO needs to be mobilised now without delay to bolster the eastern Ukraine flank, it should have been done much sooner and too late now.
Having said that the scary prediction made this morning is our troops could end up in combat against Russia which really is unthinkable but quite possibly a real reality now.
Putin has a screw loose with completely opposite views to the west.

The US were providing NATO and I assume Ukraine with very detailed real time data on movements of ground troops, the Global Hawk has wide array of sensors (EO/IR, SARS, SIGINT) to see and listen, by patrolling up to the Russian border they could see many miles into Russia.
The fact that the planes moved out of Ukrainian airspace before the invasion started shows they knew when it started and what the likely threats for the plane were.
The fact they allowed the planes to be seen on a public radar feed rather than not indicated that this was deliberate move to show Russia they were there.
Of course we are all (bar a few) just observers..

I fear the west has been caught napping and Putin knows this and is now exploiting its weakness. For me I lump Putin in the same club as Gadaffi and Hussain except he hides behind a mask of respectability.

If you live near there or Lossiemouth don't be surprised if the QRAs seem very busy. there's likely to be a lot of 'Bears' in the air off the coasts.

Been doing that myself. Didn't appreciate the scale when I first replied to this thread just hours ago. From being a forceful powerful leader fifteen or so years ago, he has transposed into a very scary individual. Lets hope we can isolate him enough to stop this before too many people die. To say nothing of the economic fallout that is to come.
His game plan will be conventional in that he wants total control over Ukrainian affairs..he's flexible..he'll beat up parts of Ukraine (to try and avoid too much loss of Ukrainian blood for political reasons), then he'll ask the current administration to throw in the towel, if they refuse he'll just destroy everything in his path and take Kiev by force...simple!
