Looking at 35is as potential next car

Have you ordered your bike, or just in the decison phase? Is it your first bike?

Its just that in many many cases 'first bikes' get binned by their riders. Why not buy somthing
cheaper, build up experience and buy a posh bike in a years' time. Your call, but bike insurance
is mad. I really wouldn't buy a new bike to commure on.

Speed is not your enemy. Lack of biking experience might be for a while. I'm not a troll, so not trying o rile you. If i've got the situation wrong, then enjoy your new bike. Exciting stuff.
 
I think speed can be an enemy.
People often cannot compute how fast a single lamp is coming towards them and if the bike is lashing on way over the limit that's when speed can be a factor.
I'm too old for a bike tho!
 
I ran bikes from being 11 yrs old, then had a FS1e as soon as I could..

Went through TZR's, Rd350lc.. RD 500.. ZXR's...YZF's and when I was 30 bought a brand new Fireblade, then had it tuned.
By that time the bike was surpassing my ability...
It tried to kill me on a daily basis, although I rode it was to fast and like an idiot most of the time..
I still have a go on friends bikes from time to time, and the new stuff is horrendously fast..I can't imagine using one of the new super bikes as a daily...

Ordered & have an estimated delivery date. It'll be the first bike I've owned.

After passing my test I talked with my instructor about what direction to take with a bike. He said for me there’s not much point in bothering with a cheap first bike in my case as long as I didn't go for a supersport and also get in 1 or 2 days of tutored track time before getting something fast.
 
My instructor was of the opinion I didn't actually learn that much. Rather I simply was gaining confidence in unproven skill sets.
 
No I've not missed the point at all, I fully realise what your saying is that some engines have more low down grunt and with an engine like the S1000 you have to give it more revs to realise the potential performance, but to pile the revs on is almost addictive and you find yourself giving it a lot more beans than you know you ought, if you've got the willpower to keep below 5000rpm it'll be no problem, like SO8 said its all down to the rider twisting his right hand too much and not being able to deal with what happens.

What a plonker that instructor sounds, what relevance does tutored track time have to do with safe road riding ?? all that's
going to teach you is to try to go around bends as fast as possible, the last thing you need, and the S1000 might not be a race replica but with 160 bhp it certainly is a supersport. I'm not trying to spoil your fun just want you to stay safe and not become a statistic, after riding for nearly 50 yrs and part of that time as an instructor I've ridden nearly every model of BM bikes produced since the mid seventies, so I do know what I'm on about even if you think I'm an old fuddy duddy. Apologies for going so far off topic, back to the Z4, looks like a really nice day tomorrow, would be able to get the roof down, shame the car's tucked up in the garage till spring ( as well as the bikes)
 
Good luck with the bike.
Its been said already that most drop their first bike so its unwise to buy a new bike for your first and that is a big heavy bike you are going to get.

Totally lost the plot with all that bike stuff but with all this decent wheather (Apart from Cumbria and York) Why is the car in the garage? Put it away when the snow comes and bring it out when it goes. :driving:

Yeah but the more force you have at the back wheel the more likely it is you'll be getting up close & personal with the verge.

Look how much more thrust the Tiger has in the 25-45mph range for the same gear. The XR you're dropping gears & so are much more aware of having that thrust on tap.

I've been riding bikes for quite a few years and used to ride them at work as a police traffic officer (I still can ride them but choose not to these days). Trust me ... figures may mean it will kick you harder on one bike than another but any bike of significance will still spit you off as much as look at you.

I went to an 1100cc though after 6 months btw :evil: I was told I would kill myself but am still here .... but am equally aware of how many dead motorcyclists I deal with at work.

Just treat it with extreme care and everyone around you as an idiot trying to knock you off !
 
A 2010 35is in Silver came and went quickly on the AUC site yesterday. £18500 with 38k miles plus Nav. I was too slow again.

Why not go into a dealer and register your interest ?
Specify what are the must haves and your max budget!

I think I must just do that before I give in and buy new :lol:
 
I know that buying used saves a load of cash - but there is something nice about sitting down and specifying exactly what you want without compromise - then of course there's that new car smell.
When we bought her new 335xd last June, we only went into the dealership to look!

Remember, your last shirt has no pockets :)
