I would have gone for that! I tried joining the Facebook group but wasn't granted access in time. Can't seem to even find the group when I search now.
 
performance sound of exhausts interior and exterior looks great

run flats will change when worn exhausts tips which I have changed for chrome tips off the m4
 
Interesting commnets, as the 35is is the logical next choice - but the handling aspects worry me.

Would upgrading the springs with H&R and EBC red stuff be adequate - as the IS has the "improved" suspension?

As I do like doing the odd track day, or going for coil overs the best route?
 
Comments been made about been sluggish turning into courners - after having an E92 335i I did find it an heavy car turning in. However I find my 28i much more nimble.

But my understanding that the 35is had improved suspension?
 
It has EDC and thicker roll bars...

I think the only way would be to have a go in one and see if it's too your liking..

Thanks John. Oh I see. I have had an S2000 (about 6 or 7 years ago now) and that has a canvas roof but IIRC the cabin noise wasn't an issue unless I was cruising on the motorway around 70 mph (so the revs sat around 4k rpm) which did make the cabin noise a tad annoying.
However, I suspect with the metal roof and headling the Z4 will be alot quieter and refined than an S2000 so hopefully all good.
I am going to have to test drive one to make sure I guess.

I've only just seen this now so obviously too late otherwise at that price its good value for money and something I would definitely been keen on.
 
Thanks all for the continued sharing of your thoughts on your cars, has really made fascinating reading. I think I might have to create an excel spreadsheet to see trends but guessing, I'd say the gearbox, sound and looks is something owners are unanimous on being one of the best features on the car.

Chassis/handling/more GT than sports car I guess being the more common items cropping up in least favourite parts about the car?

I started off looking at the 35is and SLK55 AMG (the 2005-2010 vintage) then added an Audi TTS into the equation. However, I think as an overall owning experience I suspect for me the Z4 has the edge over the SLK55. TTS remains a dark horse choice at the moment.
 
Changing to non-RFTs makes a big difference in terms of how the car feels on the road, as you mention still more GT car than track day toy, but more than enough grip for your average B road. We have one of the early 35i models, without the adaptive suspension, but we had a set of Eibach progressive springs professionally fitted, along with the camber made less aggressive, this along the the Michelin Pilot Super Sports transformed the car. We've been running this setup for over three years now with no issues and still enjoying the Z4 as our daily driver.

For me the tuned N54 engine aligned to the DCT box still puts a smile on my face when you want to press on or perform a quick overtake :D

It's also the only car where I've not been tempted to upgrade the exhaust as the OEM system is just the right balance of raspy sound when pressing on without being annoying when cruising on the motorway.

My cabin is a great place to be IMO. No "tinny sound" and snug with Alcantara and leather seats. Only noise I hear is the exhaust and the hi-fi when it's on. Both sound pretty good to me.

Must be a colour thing as I agree. In fact it's so quiet that you have to wind the window down to really appreciate the noise coming from the exhaust. It has to be the colour that makes the difference :lol:
 
If I've got to have the roof up which is very very occasionally, I always have the small back windows down just to hear the exhaust burble.
