Definitely, hit me up on here via a PM or in the meets section. I should be able to have my car no later than the 15th. I've been told the 10th, and also the 13th. I can apparently drive it for 30 days prior to MOT/Light conversion if need be.
 
Had a dream last night. Dreamed I went to pick up my car, front bumper was all jacked up and some paint missing above the tire. Then the dream had the up an nerve to make the car disappear. Annoying dreams.

Still thinking about getting winters, had a thought.

Being that I have performance summer tires (plenty of tread) on the car will that not allow me to either
A: not pass mot
B: possibly not get insurance coverage during the winter if something happened?


On a flip side, the base may require me to get winter tires or all seasons during the cold months. No one has said that yet, but the base is concerned about peoples tires.
 
AFAIK there is no legal requirement to use Winter tyres in the UK - I certainly dont. So you wont fail an MOT :D

Tend not to take the zed out in the snow though....
 
Yeah, the main thing I'm thinking about is if I'm on a road trip for the weekend and come across some snow covered roads. I think I'll go ahead and get the tires either way. On that note, should I get a smaller sized tire or keep the staggered set up like it is?
 
I do have another question that I thought about today. The military here in the UK does not give us a full UK license, we get what is called an Airforce driving permit. Add that to our stateside license and we have permission to drive here.
So that said, do ya'll think the various tracks as well as track day organizers will not allow me on the track because I don't have a full UK license?

That said, would they accept an international license?
Will they even check for a license?

They definitely check licences. We have two parts, one credit card size with the photo and one big paper thing with details of any points you have for speeding etc. Track day organisers have to check both parts. You could ask the question about US licences over on PH, the bookatrack organisers are quite active ove there.
 
Snow covered roads are generally a rarity where you are - and winter tyres are only better than summer tyres when it is really cold, not just crap weather. In normal UK drizzle/cold - summer tyres are safer.
 
dude !

dont bother with winter tyres.. and I wouldn't worry too much about the license. I've never had mine checked in 3 trackdays, (although im usually a fraction late i guess.. ) and also on the other thread about Wales, you can't get points anyway so don't worry about it !

I guess your accent might get your license checked, but I'm sure you could blag your way out of it ! :thumbsup:
 
Actually I think we have the same point system ya'll do. Yeah one guy said so long as I have everything that I'm required to have to drive in the UK I should be ok if they do check.
I was thinking of winter tires, and the uhm blizzaks come out to around 170USD a tire. Toss some wheels with that and I may as well just get an old car to put around in if I get scared.
 
You'll get very little use of winter tyres here in the UK. A friend of mine fits them to his car every winter, but that's mostly because he does a trip to the Alps for skiing.

Very occaisonally he'll find himself driving around 4x4's stuck in some unusually cold weather / snow, but it doesn't happen often.

Plus, if you do that, you won't be able to stay off work claiming you're stuck in the snow!
 
Yeah the main thing I'm wanting them for is for drives across Europe where I might be encountering snow. Which considering that doesn't really seem worth it price wise. After talking to more an more people I'm beginning to not feel so pressured about getting winters.
 
Bit OT, but I looked at your Myspace - I visited your High School several times, as my cousins used to go there and live in Westlake!

Was there in 99, 00 and 04!
