Longest Z4 commute (i.e. for work)

As prompted by the comments in the 'Spotted' thread, so I'll go first.

My longest commute (i.e. there & back all in one day) was about 650 miles. Liverpool to Monmouth to London to Barnard Castle to Liverpool. Departed 4am, got back home at 11pm with about 1 hour at each site. Still about twice as quick as public transport and half the cost.

My longest regular commute was the 6 months I spend doing the 230 miles each way from Liverpool to Bexley Heath (Monday out, Friday return) - again, it was quicker/cheaper than the train.

Does it have to be by car?

Flying to Cork up and down for 3 years. Only took 2 hours door to door each way and was cheaper than a train ticket to London :)

Yes it does - otherwise I'd have left the Z4 bit out of the title :poke:

I've 'commuted' to Australia, Japan, US, Spain, Russia, UAE, India, etc. for as little as a day's work (although got paid for the travelling days too).

My shortest is when I'm working from home, and it's about 0.003 miles from bedroom to office.

Okay as it was me who sparked the query, I live near York and travel to work in Bristol.....weekly, its about 212 miles each way, takes about 3.5 to 4 hours and have being doing it for four years. Listen to audiobooks through subscription and the time in my car just flies.

The only bad part is the mileage on the car and the cost that implies, about £360.00 a month in fuel plus the lease of the Zed. Have had lots of discussions on the pros and cons of buying a new car every three years, or buying a used car and running it into the ground. For me it boils down to wanting one nice car, not a daily shed and a weekend car. Would love a Boxter but the servicing costs for 75,000 miles would be truly scary, by comparison the Zed cost me £300 for the 5 year/60,000 miles service pack and so it might cost me £500 in total.

Absolutely love my job, well, my fun hobby job as Chief Engineer for a privately owned SME with 130 employees and wouldn't dream of changing it.

mine is about 20 meters. Bed to Office (via bathroom) :D

Likewise :)

But for a short time (6 months) it was from Bathgate to Cambridge and back every weekend. 350 miles each way that on a Sunday night I'd do in about 5 hours. The more torturous journey North on a Friday night used to take in the hideous A14 then A1 at rush hour so I'd be reigned in until I took to the A66 at Scotch Corner. That would never take me less than 7.5hours, and was frequently over 8.5hours. Whenever I went the M6 way traffic was even worse and I'd want to fall asleep from the monotony of 300 miles of straight motorway. To make up for it all I'd walk from my rented room to the office during the week!

My longest daily commute though was 80 miles each way for about 4 months, Huntingdon to Basildon every day.

Although all of this was in other cars, not the Z4, so maybe it doesn't count for this thread?

Longest commute for me has to be the 320+ miles each way from home > Glasgow which was a weekly one a couple of years back. For daily its the 205 miles round trip to Bristol - usually add quite a few more miles when I escape from the tedium that is the M5/M42/M6/M69 fast track, and just zip along some back roads, heading in the general direction of home. Luckily not on that contract now, so am just commuting between Home, London, Utrecht and Moscow - so am back into planes, trains and only occasionally my automobile :D

BTW - longest day commute (outside the zed) was from Home > Heathrow > San Francisco > Oakland Office > San Francisco > Heathrow > Home. Basically early morning departure to catch the first San Fran flight, cab to the offices for a 2 hour meeting, back into the cab to SFO to catch the overnight flight back, into the taxi and home. Was slightly over a day (near enough 24 hours from leaving Heathrow and landing at Heathrow), but was absolutely wrecked....

I have a tiny 34 mile round trip on the commute.... used to take the zed, but take the Polo now instead :)

Wouldn't take the zed anywhere during working hours, would prefer to keep the miles for time spent hooning :)

Daily 2 miles there and 2 miles back. Still this is beter than my previous job commute which was 2.5 miles there and the same back, now that was stressful :D

Daily Commute : 0.876 miles daily each way. (I do try and walk honest!)

Longest Commute by car : 160 miles to and from customer site

I used to have to regularly travel between Maidstone and Chesterfield to see a customer - 400 miles round trip... Now I have another customer in Warwick which is about 360 miles there and back, but they spend bugger all so I avoid that mostly..l nowadays the longest is about 160 miles round trip, but I try to work from home twice a week which is about 3 metres door to door :D

Penrith to London and back again in a day... Helping the gf move house, Z wasn't the best car but had a van too haha!

Roughly 650 with in-between journeys. Was a very long day about 24hrs was nakard. But the drive in the Z kept me awake!

11 miles round trip for me  last light go's out just
as i pull up at work so maybe not so good for the Z :|

In the Z, it's from Tetbury to Brackell when I visit my customer.

Previous mad stuff, Tetbury to Aylesbury, daily for 2 years. A couple of weeks Tetbury to Leeds daily

A few months Reading to Bristol daily before I relocated

Now home office based so it's up to me when I go to one of our offices

Tapatalking...

I live about 1.5 miles from work (unless on a regular commute to Belfast). Only problem living that close is I can't blame the traffic when I'm late!?!
