Hope u and urs are all safe,as with any1 else living near this..given its spreading to Liverpool/Manchester/Birmingham,etc.

Total mindless destruction..these ppl dont give a sht about other ppls property/livliehoods,etc. like the Reeves furniture busns thats now ruined,and do they think Sony will come back in to rebuild the dist centre??=possibly more jobs lost :headbang: :headbang:

Hope they get a grip soon;send in Water cannons,rubber bullets,or ARMY,bring back troops from abroad if need be!!

What's left of the Sony building is still smoking away but no so bad. I feel for our community as a whole but especially for the 750 employees at the Sony centre who I presume are now out of a job.

We had Vigilanties out last night and again tonight. Have mixed feelings about this but if it goes some way to prevent anymore problems in our area them all well and good.
 
Jimbo, you're not that far from Ealing. Things pretty much calmed down in your area? I am away for another 10 days and a little concerned....as my house is very close to the trouble, and I am sure my neighbours are worried too. There is only so much I can get from BBC online and Sky news
 
The Taliban must be having a right laugh at all this, they don't even need to fight us, they just sit and watch while we self destruct....

This has not come from times being tough, it has come from years and years of times being far too easy... people getting paid to sit on their arses and not having to work, poverty trap etc...

Ok, some exceptions to the rule, but in general people who have had everything for free all their lives (i.e. dole money) will obviously have no respect for people or property because all they do is take from society and never give anything... so when it is on the news "looting in London, why don't you organise a gang to help yourselves in Manchester" (which is the basic message the news gives out) of course these people are going to think it's friggin Christmas!

I'm about 20 miles I'd guess from Ealing Nick. Things were a bit quieter last night. A big Vigilante presence split over the 3 main shopping areas last night and they're gonna be out again tonight. Wouldn't normally condone this but if it's working then all good.
 
NickM - I am not getting drawn into a discussion in the direction which you want me to go as that was not the purpose of the original post anyway.

I have not followed the analysis of the Manchester riots so can not comment on who they are and their place would be in prison.

Just like with any other serious crime, once convicted, you are extradicted back to the country where you are from. Happens all the time and all that I was stating was that the French are taking it one step further to not just include first generation.

Oh, and I can not vote in the UK as I am an immigrant as well so a political party number does not interest me ...
 
PVR I am not trying to bait you into any confrontation, I just noted the comment on your orig post was one that was based on colour and it's clear to see. So maybe you wish you hadn't said that, who knows, but it clearly shows a colour point of view. I shall not raise the point again.

Trial by Social Network, isn't it just so unfair how badly their human rights have been infringed... NOT!!!

I hope the Police get this under control soon, as I can see we'll start getting retribution by lynch mob appearing on YouTube now that people are getting organised.
 
Our local newspapers are covering the story too, but not doing a very good job of it. Even on Google I can't seem to find an answer.

I know there are riots, over 200 people arrested, etc. etc... but why? What sparked the riots?
 
Without wanting to stamp on free speech, please be aware that there are plenty of differing opinions on this subject, so please temper your responses as such. I don't want to censor anyone but this is predominantly a car forum so please keep it civil (and save the bitter childish squabbles for those who are more experienced and expert in them... in the house of commons!).

I am sure we all agree that the situation is not good, does not bode well for the future and does not show the UK in a good light, but please try not to let this become too political.

They'll be debating this for months to come, and the politicians have already started to try and score points about it...

The first thing that sparked it was the shooting of a man in Tottenham. Only proper facts to emerge so far are:

It was a planned operation with armed police
A non-police issue firearm was recovered from the scene
It had not been fired
He was shot in the chest and killed

After a police shooting, it is normal procedure to hand the investigation (and liaison with the family) to the IPCC (Independant police complaints comission). This liaison with the family took a long time to begin, the family and friends (and others) demonstrated in Tottenham.

That turned into a riot on Sunday night IIRC, which sparked other riots.

IMHO, the other riots are just a load of people who:

Don't have anything to lose (or look forward to)
Don't think they'll get caught (or don't care)

and have decided to help themselves to all the trainers and lcd televisions they can carry. On one high street, the only shop that wasn't looted was a bookstore...
 
This problem started a few generations ago, we removed punishment from schools, this to the kids meant there is no consequence to their actions, Ok yeah they get expelled but for the idiots this just meant a few days holiday, after they leave school and commit a crime the overly lenient judicial sytem slaps them on the wrist. What message does this give to them except that there is no consequence to their actions, we really should not blame the youth of today as they simply do not know any better, Blame those who dragged us screaming and kicking into the european union and removed "consequence" from our society.

I was brought up in a Very poor family and my parents constantly worried about how the next meal was going to get to us, I had to wear my brothers hand me downs until I left home, I never had any money until I got my first job and struggled all my life to make a bob or two, I Lived through the troubles of the 80's miner strikes the poll tax riots etc etc etc. But never and I mean never have I felt the need to run through the streets looting and rioting and then blame on the fact that there are people who are better off than me.

Why,, because when I was growing up there was consequnce for my actions.

I whole heartidly agree...bring back Capital Punishment,and more discipline in School

Ulf Poschardt of Germany's Die Welt blames dependence on the welfare state, saying other countries that have "lived beyond their means" will be forced to endure similar turmoil.

Mr Poschardt blasts looters as those who "have got used to getting money from the state and complaining when that is cut back".
