London - my love hate relationship

Yeah, we stopped there on the way to Malaysia 2 years ago and when you see it from the air at the same height as your approach it's nuts. Still like London's skyline better... However Edinburgh's takes the biscuit

Definitely in a "love" mood today as well. This was the view from Parliament Hill...

To be honest, my biggest gripe with London right now is the cost of insuring a Z4!

It was (Galaxy S2), but it's just the kind of shot that flatters a phone cam. They are pretty useless for most other things.

I love visiting London for the weekend etc, but think the public transport is a joke after some bad experiences...can't believe they shut the tube down at night and taxi are crap. Buses useless unless you know the names of the areas...not good for a dumb ass like me!

London can be ok sometimes. Much rather be out here though

I would have to disagree - I lived in central London for 6 years and apart from the striking tube drivers, the London transport system is excellent, even the buses.

You try getting across any other major city using public transport - you'll find you have to get countless buses, or simply can't do it without the use of a car

ok, I'll give you my example of why my opinion is tarnished:

Went to a concert at the O2. Got the tube to the O2, no problems.

Came out and it had snowed. Tube line was closed. No buses or taxi's were running. Only thing running was the water taxi thing, which we took to Waterloo.

Taxi's sitting around with engine running. Asked the driver to take us to Marble Arch...no!

No buses.

Walked in slush from waterloo...saw LOADS of taxi's driving around empty, none stopped. No buses.

finally got to Oxford street and got a bus to the other end. Got back to hotel about 3am.

Why close the tube all the way...(probably a very good reason for that, so ignore my question).

No provision for thousands coming out of the O2, shocking.

Admittedly, this is a one off and I havent lived there. When I use the tube in the day it is fine, but on a weekend, to close early (weather or not) is crap considering that is when tourists are there.

True, but this wasnt that bad. It was the taxi's driving around empty that really got me.

London's ok. Used to live just outside, near Windsor but I would never live down there again.
This is why.....

Even on a miserable November morning it still takes my breath away how beautiful it is. In the summer I wake up to green fields and, sometimes , seas of gorgeous yellow rape and just sometimes, sunshine!

Thats just smog from the industrial towns of the north?

haha! No, that's early morning mist.
This one here features a country factory, or as we call it in the sticks, a 'Farm'. :poke:

Thought I'd post the view from my office window. The country boy part of me always feels a little bit happier when he can see the sky properly. The town boy part of me just loves the buzz :)
