I love visiting London for the weekend etc, but think the public transport is a joke after some bad experiences...can't believe they shut the tube down at night and taxi are crap. Buses useless unless you know the names of the areas...not good for a dumb ass like me!
I would have to disagree - I lived in central London for 6 years and apart from the striking tube drivers, the London transport system is excellent, even the buses.
You try getting across any other major city using public transport - you'll find you have to get countless buses, or simply can't do it without the use of a car
ok, I'll give you my example of why my opinion is tarnished:
Went to a concert at the O2. Got the tube to the O2, no problems.
Came out and it had snowed. Tube line was closed. No buses or taxi's were running. Only thing running was the water taxi thing, which we took to Waterloo.
Taxi's sitting around with engine running. Asked the driver to take us to Marble Arch...no!
No buses.
Walked in slush from waterloo...saw LOADS of taxi's driving around empty, none stopped. No buses.
finally got to Oxford street and got a bus to the other end. Got back to hotel about 3am.
Why close the tube all the way...(probably a very good reason for that, so ignore my question).
No provision for thousands coming out of the O2, shocking.
Admittedly, this is a one off and I havent lived there. When I use the tube in the day it is fine, but on a weekend, to close early (weather or not) is crap considering that is when tourists are there.
