Locking your car - questions

Locking - normal. You can turn on a horn beep if you want (dealer does it) but that would irritate the hell out of me personally

Recesses - sounds like you are describing the mood lighting. Two red LEDs that bathe the centre console in red light at night.

You can have the alarm programmed so it beeps on lock and unlock, also able to turn visible warnings on or off for unlock and lock.

The lights are as mike says, well either mood lighting which illuminates when the driving lights or side lights are on, and the other two are map lights which have switches near them, but would have thought you should have figured that out

The light under the rear view mirror should flash slowly when armed. It should do this night and day, unless its faulty or been disconnected due to a new windscreen etc

When I unlock it, there are no visible or audible signals... just the noise of the central locking opening..... Is this normal?
it's not the same as mine.
When I unlock my interior lights come on.

on page 55 of the manual it says if you press and hold the centre button for ~3 seconds you can set the interior lights to be continuously off.
I set this mode, and then my interior lights do not come on when I unlock.

press the centre button again to cancel the continuous off mode

The Rear View Mirror alarm indicator light only starts flashing after a minute or so iirc... This is likely to be the delay before the interior sensors activate (to prevent it going off with stuff dangling around etc. like magic tree air fresheners!).

I don't think mood lighting is the correct description, but I'm happy to be corrected. The red light is chosen as the one colour that can illuminate the cabin and thus make it easy to find controls, whilst not detracting from nightime driving or distracting other drivers.

That probably explains why it took me a year to realise it was even there  It does work very well I think

Oddly, it's something I do miss now when driving lesser cars.

You sure do notice not having it. Try and X5 looks and feels like your an extra in Red October when in dark countryside

Believe it or not there is no interior sensors! Well they were an option apparently, but not many came with it. It has a tilt sensor instead.

When i coded mine i was able to select whether it flashed on locking and unlocking as inidividual options, i couldn't see an option to make it beep maybe the dealer can do that?

Yeah had my E46 done so it beeped, but annoyed me after a while, as late at night it started making the cats bark

Just lock the car with the windows down and reach in, think you will find it sets the alarm off.

Not sure how it can, as mine has no sensor. They are near the interior light, but mine is just a blank space. I will be happy to be wrong, but when my alarm started randomly going off looked into this quite a bit.

You can see up inside with a torch, there is a little slotted piece to the right of the light. Have a look and see, but yours may have come with it :)

The sensors aren't up by the rear view mirror that much I know, they will only trigger objects that go below the door level IIRC, but I'm sure all UK cars have interior sensors.

Any idea where they are then? I have not tried putting my arm in, but will have a go when the rain stops :D

Don't know I'm afraid just remember setting them off on a car on a dealer forecourt by putting my hand in and pointing to something and setting them off in mine doing something or other.
