Locking the car with the top down question

Just wondering, do the storage compartment and the glove box get locked when you lock the car with the roof down? I'm guessing they do :)

Pretty sure they do. But if you're parking in an area where someone would steal stuff from the compartments, I would be worried about jealous people putting food in the car and otherwise vandalising the interior.

Storage compartment does but not sure about glovebox.

But ditto Boogle....watched too many herberts gobbing into open soft-tops but I guess it depends where you are leaving it.

Storage compartment and glove box are locked. The trunk open button is deactivated.
Event the "lock button" inside the car is deactivated. You can unlock the car only with the remote (or by opening the door with the handle).

Excellent, thanks for the comments guys! I'd never leave the car anywhere with the roof down for long, just nipping into the shops or something. Got to watch those chavvy types!

You might like to try it first. There is a post somewhere on the forum that shows a SIB for the centre storage compartment. In short, on some cars it doesn't work as expected and needs a slight mod. I know for a fact mine does not lock and the mod is on my todo list.

Found it http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1012

That depends, shooter.

The central locking button must be modified on some Z4Rs. Don't only count on the alarm proximity sensor to protect your valuables- carry out the mod here- http://www.shipkiller.com/Disable_Lock_Button.html ). Then your alarm will take care of the rest.

Unless I'm nearby and able to look directly at my car at all times, I would never consider leaving the top down with the alarm on and assume everything will be fine upon my return.

The joke is alot of insurance companies dont cover cars left with the roof open

i would have thought all insures would void insurance if it was left with roof down - they will do anything to get out of paying

Last time I checked the glove box doesn't lock when I lock the car - instead it has it's own key lock on the handle...

Thanks for the heads up about the centre box unlocking when pressing the centre console unlock button though! I'll have to do the mod linked to on Shipkiler's site!

I too only leave the roof down if in a safe area when I know I'll only be a couple of minutes
