List of problems.. Back from dealership with more problems..

Dont 3 series convertibles use similar mechanisms? I wonder if they have the same problems.

Regarding the roof moving when driving....surely if it locks correctly it shouldn't move at all?

Good luck tomorrow!!!

Thanks Kevin, its a 3 Series Touring loaner for today :) actually quite nice but an auto and have never driven one in my life :o

I've not heard of 3 series roofs leaking but haven't really done much of a search, I have noticed on mine the roof will creak when being standing in the sun until you get going then goes so I would imagine the roof structure does move slightly even when locked into place.

Tim.

Reading these posts makes me a) really sorry for you because you guys/girls because you are having very difficult issues and b) makes me wonder if I have had a lucky escape which does make me wonder/nervous about what I will do at change time because current thought was another Z4 but I wouldnt want these problems

I hate with a passion my dealer at the moment :(

I love my car with a passion, no problems with my car whatsoever. The f****king dealer however.....

Yes, we should meet for a drink and have a mutual slag-off session. :headbang:

Chas - I think from reading the posts on here that the problem cars are in the minority, so you'd probably be ok, and no worse off than buying any other car.

Carol - Slagging off is what I do best (as long as its behind their back, cos I'm a wimp!).

Our exception is not the rule. The majority have had no problems with their cars and are enjoying happy ownership. My car has had no problems at all apart from a manufacturing default on the corner of the bumper. It is my parking sensors debacle that is my problem.
John & Kev are of the minority that have had problems with their cars. Please don't let it put you off. These E89's are superb machines. I love mine.
Car = :D :wub: :happyclap:
Dealer = :headbang: :thumbsdown: :x

Any news on yours, or are they keeping it for a cold start in the morning?

Hi Kevin, left it with them all day and they put mine side by side with a white E89 same engine and they both made the same noise :? mine a little longer before it subsided. They did offer for me to leave it over night and to try again but as I dropped the Zed off at 7.30am it had been sitting a good 7 hours so I didn't see the point. Unless the Zed the dealer had was faulty then It seems its normal and a chracteristic of this engine so I'm satisfied theres nothing wrong. They hooked the car upto the diagnostics and nothing was showing and there is nothing showing with a visual inspection, so will see how it goes. I think some N20 engines are quieter than others as I have found road test reports where the tester mentioned the engine whines at idle and through the gears although mine doesn't do it whilst driving. I think alot of owners simply don't notice it. The dealer has been very helpful and said if it does change to take it back in.

Tim.

I guess if another car does the same then it looks like it probably is genuine.

I used to have an E90 3 series and when unlocking it after having it locked for a long time, there would be some clicks from the engine bay. They told me it was normal, but I didn't believe them. Then I had a loan E90 whilst mine was in so I tested that....it did exactly the same, so I was happy then.

I think the issue we have on the forum is that it can be difficult to describe these noises, so it might be loads of people have it, but just dont recognise it.

John, I'm going to pm you. I can't put too much on here but I am now about to take legal action against my dealer. You would not believe whats been going on about my parking sensors issue. Haven't been able to talk about it on here just in case it gets as far as I think it's going to.
I have already started the ball rolling and will share with you what I have learned so far.

Just spotted this thread... best of luck with the legal action, Carol - if it comes to that.

I would agree that Z4's are really very brilliant indeed , the funny thing being that I was thinking about replacing it with a (used) Aston V8 but my research (limited as this wont be happening until next spring) has led me to believe that they are not the last word in reliability which is what has made me think about staying with a Z4

Nope.. I have left a message with the dealership this morning for either the service manager or dealership manager to call me back and I had heard nothing. I rang about half hour ago and got through to the service manager who informs me that they are awaiting a release date on the seat cover and he will ring me back shortly when he has checked the system..... Im still waiting..

The letter I sent last week has not been replied to. I also copied to Matt Bacon and his colleague at BMW UK and have not had a response email from them either, not even an aknowledgement.. Takes the bloody pi$$

Scrub the above, just had the phonecall from the service manager. The dash trims are on back order and the seat base is on major back order which means it could be two to three weeks.. :headbang:

It seriously makes me consider just selling the chuffin thing and going to a manufacturer that actually gives two s**its about you and your car.

I think its more a case of the dealer than BMW, though its hit and miss. As you're on PCP you don't own the car so you can't sell it other than back to the dealer who no doubt will either decline or say sure after a whopping penalty. We know you're pissed off and we hope you get a good resolution, be careful you don't over cook it on the anger though as that might slow things down. Try to be nice but persistent, works for me.

What are they loaning you whilst yours is in?

2 to 3 weeks is a bugger.

We havent been too lucky with these cars. Carol has had a good result.

I sent my letter of rejection off yesterday!

The only other car I fancy is a Boxster.....

You can sell a car on PCP to anyone. I did that with my last two cars.. Its no differnet to regular HP

I know what you mean about not over cooking it. Im staying calm and collected and trying to be amicable..

I stand (well sit) corrected, as I didn't know that, thought you were bound to BMW (i.e. they still owned it).

The finance company own it, in this case BMW Finance. You need to make sure the settlement figure is paid.

I sold a Ford once which was on Ford Options (same thing) and I sold it provately. Got the buyer to pay Ford over the phone with his card to clear the credit, then pay me the difference in cash.

Just be honest with the buyer, cos the car will show as having outstanding finance, but in a way, with cars of this value I would think most buyers should understand its on finance.

I would assume you could also part ex it at a non-bmw dealer also, and they would clear the finance?

John,

I think you should try emailing Tim Abbott (BMW UK MD). It worked in getting things moving for me and I was assigned some bloke in Customer Services at Bracknell.

The minions have had far too long to try and sort this out.

I'll PM his email address to you.
