Liqui Moli additives/ oil

Liqui Moli say they add chemicals to their oil that extend the life of o rings and seals. Is there any evidence for their claims? Is it likely to make any difference to the longevity of a 2003 engine? Or will a good quality synthetic oil be as good?

Just my opinion as a maintenance engineer

The quality oils are made to a high standard to suit the car manufacturers tolerances
The car manufacturers make there engines to run on mainstream oil that is to a standard
In O rings and seals are made to run in this spec of oil

The wear mainly comes from operating outside the standard operating parameters, too hot too cold used for too long between oil changes.
Then there is oil contamination and carbon deposits some from the fuel, some from entering the engine, jet washing the engine can push grit past a seal and into the engine where it has to travel through the engine to the sump to be picked up and pumped to the oil filter where it should be trapped

So given the above I would not be adding chemicals that dilute the oils capacity to correctly lubricate the engine

Again my opinion my Z4M only does 3 to 5 thousand miles per oil change and half that for an oil filter as the oil filter is on top of the engine it can be changed without draining the oil.

I have for more years than I care to remember used a can of Wynn's at every oil change. This stems from when I had an old smoky car about thirty years ago and someone at the time recommended Wynn's and it made a real difference . It's a friction reducer that worked but properly is less useful now with modern engines but old habits die hard. It is probably more useful on a high mileage car but I do feel it makes acceleration feel a bit smoother.
If you get a small amount on your fingures when adding it, you can wash your hands and still feel a slippy residue so to my mind it works but it could just be snake oil to someone else.

Liqui Moli is a high quality oil, that seal additive may or may not be marketing hype, they have to try and stand out the same as all the other manufactures. But you can't go wrong with their engine oil.

M539 Restorations on youtube is a BMW spanner man and is really informative and funny at the same time and fixes all models of cars. He ( although I suspect is sponsored by Liquid Moly) uses it in BMW gearboxes to help with the 1st to 2nd senario when cold and says its one of the best. He does use other oils and fluids as well away from Liquid Moly. I may try that when I do a box oil change in the summer . For me and my car having done only a thousand miles since the last oil change a year a go ( yes sacrilege and maybe why I might sell it later this year) that a fresh oil and filter of just decent oil annually is a better option. There is enough additives in that to negate any extra potion these days.

I tend to use their Ceratec oil additive as I believe the engine runs quieter and smoother with it than without by my reckoning. As there is so much discussion on S54 rod bearings I felt it may help a little with that too on cold starts.

As above I change the oil and filter yearly which is 1-2k miles to keep it in good health.
