The car has been running a bit pants recently. I thought maybe it was my imagination at first ( thinking i have problems when i don't ) But unfortunately it seems i do have a problem.

So the car has not been running smoothly. Some times there is a loss of power a hiccup almost but then it comes back. Almost like the traction control cutting in. Any way yesterday morning i went down to the garage to fill up for the midlands meet car running ok. Filled up with v power started the car up and had a xmas tree on the dash :( and the car hunting for revs 800 - 1500 rpm and no power.

I haven't plugged it in to get fault codes yet i couldn't be bothered with the stupid bloody car!!! I will plug it in tonight and have a look. But has anyone got any ideas? I had exactly the same symptoms when the throttle body went at Christmas. I suppose i could have got a doddgy part?

Tempted to sell the stupid thing at the moment any one want a non running zed?????? Its causing me nothing but problems the last thing a fun weekend car should do :(

Thanks for the informative info GT!!! :P

Seriously p$$ed off with the car at the moment i might be stripping it selling the bits and setting whats left on fire :(

Pull the codes but my first instincts are with a MAF issue - could be a split intake pipe as slick suggests or the MAF itself may have gone tits-up.

Other than that a vacuum leak (small ones can be a right pain to find so a smoke test is worthwhile) or one of the O2 sensors failing

Just Been out and checked the connections they seem ok. And started her up to check the pipe work and there where one awful sounds coming out of the engine!!

It sounds terminal :( I really hope it's not!!!

Sorry to hear your zed is sickly MM

Sounds like similar symptoms that my zed had. As PerryGunn has said see what codes are stored, they might point you in the right direction.

Is the fault there every time you start the engine?

My error code was 'P0171 'system too lean bank 1' which is really a generic code and could be a number of things. For me it was back to basics, too lean = air getting in or fuel starvation, but so many things to check though.

I would check the hoses for any visual signs of splits and also worth checking MAF. Have you tried running the engine with the fuel cap off, just to make sure your tank hasn't built up a vacuum pressure, that would certainly restrict fuel and give you weird symptoms Might also be related to an injector error?

Lets us know how you get on mate, hope it is a quick and simple fix for you!

Pulling the codes would be best indeed, a BMW specialist will probably be able to tell you by the fault codes, what the most likely cause will be.

I could pop down tomorrow evening if you like and we can get some more info code wise if you are free? Got software etc now

Very kind Luke my brother is due round mine tonight. He has diagnostic gear but there where some horrible mechanical noises coming out of it :o
