Try all the good advice above but the way I would sort it is with a little blue diamond shaped tablet :lol:

It's not exactly hard to inspect the chain mate, quite a few bolts to get the rocker cover off, but very easy to do.

Really you want a new gasket on there, but it's not 1,000,000 essential to investigate.

If you go down that route, check the tensioner is OK, and that there's no visible damage to anything under there.
