Light switch in stowage compartment

Hi All - first post here. Anyhow, currently have an issue with the Z4, albeit very small. Essentially I was fiddling with the stowage compartment yesterday and dislodged the switch that activates the light when the stowage compartment between the backrests is opened. The switch works but I can't get it to turn off now as there's nothing pushing down on the switch when the compartment lid is closed. Does anyone know how this fits together or where i can find images of how it should look with the switch in situ. Silly I know, but want to get it sorted. Cheers. James

the boot - so the tiny compartment between the seats, where the cd changer rests. Can anyone take pics or provide a diagram of how it should look? Cheers.

Yes - when the lid is open the light comes on. There are posts on here about this but no pics. I have all the bits, but its just fallen apart!

cheers. does the switch wiggle around or is everything pretty much fixed in there? Can you see how it fits together?

Ah... I did this! At the bottom of the lid there is a small lever (I guess) which stick out slightly. If you follow the path of this down there is a small hole at the bottom the the compartment. There is a small metal switch that sits on the base - I'd knocked mine off. If you fish around inside you should be able to find it. It's real fiddly but just takes some patience. Hopefully Gannet's pics will help this make sense!

That's assuming you've done what I did

didnt seem loose to me...

cant really see how it fits together because it together....

pvr has been in that area more than some... have you looked on realoem for any hints from the exploded diagrams?

Hi Chaps - thanks so much. I'll try tonight. Pics are useful. Its just been knocked out that's all! Will update tomorrow! JB

If you see Gannet's second pic I removed that small section that covers the clip... that's was the faff, trying to get it back in position. Go carefully I managed to snap a small retaining clip in the process, although it sits in place fine now.

Yeah - think I've got it. 2nd pic is best. Should be able to get access from behind the lid when open. With the switch, the metal clip hangs onto the back of the black plastic right? That way it holds tight?

Holds tight! Mine just sits (hangs) there... but yes, there is piece of plastic that sticks out and you hang the switch mechanism off of that. Then spend ages trying to refit the cover - I found it surprisingly difficult ham-fistedly trying to negotiate around both side of the lid.

So, tried it. Nearly got there, but then the metal clip for the switch sprung out! Bugger! It's really difficult. Does anyone have an "explode" diagram or the extract from a garage manual that could help / scan in. I'll need to re-order a switch and try again. If that fails to work - any suggestion - car sparky or garage?

Having removed the rear centre console I thought it was possible to remove the door to give better access, sure it's only two screws that hold it in place.

Then the pieve where the light is slides out easily.

I have some pics I can email through later if you pm your email address.

Just sent you a PM with the em address. Hope you can help! Tried to remove the door lid by removal of the two screws but it won't budge - any ideas?

Cheers.

James

When you find out how to get that door off, can you let me know please?

The little tang has broken off mine. I'm sure I could do a "fix" if the door was on the bench!

I've still got a few months af a BMW used car warranty, but doubt they'll cover that.

You get the door out by removing the screws and pulling hard. It feel like it's going to break but it doesn't. Brute force is required.
