That's just plain wrong and will damage it....
To be sure we are talking about the pull down flap between the seats?
If so, you place a locking device in the small hole in the edge of the door when it's partially open. A thin allen key is good. This locks the hinge mechanism.
Next loosen the grub screw and simply gently pull the flap to the front of the car. Leave the mechanism locked and it will slide back the same way.
Yep - it's a real pain to work out how the allen key is locking the flap, but the correct way.
