Yeah-he basically said they could replace the cat and the light still come on, exactly what the stealers told me last year :roll:mac27040 said:29F4 (P0420) - Catalyst System

Had two replaced within weeks of each other(diagnosed one , then couple of weeks later when light came on again-said oh it must be the other one! , no supermarket has been near the zed in my ownership)mac27040 said:Could be a faulty O2 sensor, also make sure you use decent fuel not supermarket fuel

I thought they would be able to go more 'in depth' :roll:Lillywhite said:Why did you ask an Indy to read a code when you already had a D900 code reader? :?
Cat has not been changed-everything else has though  -funny you should say that though, the last time it came on (and I turned it off myself) the car was travelling over very bumpy ground for a couple of miles.fixit man said:Hi Andy,
has anyone checked the wiring ?, maybe try to find a good Auto electrician and get him to have a look at it, If the Cats been changed and both sensors that's the direction I'd be going or else take the F"£$%ing bulb out !!
I Feel for you, I know this has been coming and going for a long time, good luck![]()
Could be-I just cannot believe in this day and age, the problem cannot be resolved.DPG said:Could it be time for an upgrade Andy?

Where would I start?-under the car around the sensors?-would the fault code be different though?fixit man said:andysat said:Cat has not been changed-everything else has though  -funny you should say that though, the last time it came on (and I turned it off myself) the car was travelling over very bumpy ground for a couple of miles.fixit man said:Hi Andy,

Can't see a Cat. having an intermittent problem like that, unless you're driving is connected... small journeys clogging up the Cat., but I think you would've made that connection by now If it was the case, so I would say check the wiring, sounds like a false indication to me !
I will have to have a look at this, thanks for the advice.fixit man said:I don't think code readers are clever enough to determine If It's wiring or the sensor, it just points you in the right direction.
With wiring diagram in hand check for continuity on all the wires going to from the sensors that are connected with that system, also check for continuity to ground in case a wire is shorting to ground, while shaking the wires, also visually check the wires for Chafing, check the routing of the wires where they go through holes or around corners ...usual places for chafing !
Cheers I cant seem to get it to work?fixit man said:no problem, hope you find something, here's a link to a wiring diagram that Bcwerkz just posted :-http://www.bmw-planet.com/diagrams/release/en/e85/index.htm
Cheers mate, you have got a point but it would be nice to just get mine sorted out once and for all.Bing said:Andy - get rid of yours and buy Cueball's 3.0, as suggested by MM on the FS thread. Bargain, beautiful car, more horses. Enough is enough, surely ?
Edit - even though it would involve a trip up North, the pain/expense/enjoyment equation must be broken enough to think about it...
