Would love a Royal Oak but cant justify spending £10k on a watch. Maybe one day :-)

I have

Submariner that I wore as a daily for 10 years... It's knacked and needs a full rebuild, outweighs the price of the watch..

.

How bad actually is it? Its out of warranty so it doesn't want be going to rolex for a service they'll replace everything with a scratch on and ruin it IMO. Parts are available and cheap enough really and a service at a decent watchmakers will run you around £150. If it's a 3135 they are very reliable movements so I'd say even if the main spring needs replacing it could work out less than £200 you get it running perfect again, if you don't mind some aftermarket parts Clark for example it's going to be even cheaper.

Your dad was....?
Cubby Broccoli? (If you believe the legend that he handed Sean Connery a Submariner because Rolex wouldn't supply a watch and the budget didn't extend to acquiring one for the movie. This kind of staggers belief that a million dollar movie couldn't afford a couple of hundred dollar watch, so I'm a bit dubious aboubt the veracity of this story).
The Regimental strap used in the Bond films looks nothing like the Nato on that Seiko (which I really like, by the way. The grey/black really suits the white dial  ).
Any chance you can provide a link to the info about the new Bond movie you mentioned?
Cheers.

Anymore German brand owners on here?
sadly not at the moment, but would love to add something from Sinn, Muhle Glashutte, A. Lange & Söhne, (okay, stop me now, the list just gets longer...) :D

My dad makes the straps (Phoenix Straps Ltd) He had the contract for Seiko/Nato and original supplier. There are lots of different stories with the actual colour in the movie, then it changed with the intro of HD..... But i'm not clued up enough to comment...

Ref the new bond movie, uses the black/grey as yours...... but its a cheap sewn one (not sure who managed to mess that one up!!).... the genuine ones are untrasonically welded.

It's bad...lol...

I repaired cars in it, fell over drunk with it on, general abuse I'm afraid..
I traded in watches for a number of years and it stood me at nothing so it got used as a daily..

It needs a new bezel, new crystal, new crown, case needs recutting and strap wants repinning... Fingers have some marks...

I was quoted £2200 about 7 years ago from a friend who is a Rolex engineer... So it got put into the watch box and I bought the ball hydro...

Being honest I have no real love for it, rollys don't really do it for me.. Whereas I would sell the missus before I would sell the IWC flieger...

Rolex will charge £470 for a service which should include most parts. They will also refurb the case too. They may suggest some additional work like a new bezel or bezel and bezel insert, about £100 together, new bracelet or even just a bracelet clasp. Again they will refinish the bracelet. A new sub is in excess of £5k, if it's 10 years old you would of paid around the £2k mark.

There have been guys come back from Iraq and Afghanistan with really knackered subs and they've not cost more than £1k to have a service and fully restored.

Mikes had a few watches returned to Rolex and they've been I a terrible state as he doesn't take them off either, bent clasps, damaged bezels all fixed for not much more than the service cost.

If it was a vintage one your looking at more for a service alone! I think if you took it to a Rolex dealer to be sent to Rolex to be serviced you'd be rather surprised by how little it costs in comparison. Also all sports watches are sent back to Switzerland and you don't have to go for everything they suggest on their estimate.

Or save £515 buy this one

Looks much nicer with the original bezel and without that stupid lollipop second hand, you can spend £15 on a decent nato and you are back to the bond look have a bracelet option and are £500 better off

I actually really like the AT the dial looks very different with the bond family crest on it, not sure about the second hand on that one either though, also think its pretty cool the way they slipped the 007 into the gauss rating on the dial but maybe would have been better as just the number instead of going all out with the gun logo

I have just had a watch delivery today!!!!

Literally 10 minutes ago this arrived (delivered to my parents so I wont actually have it until next week) and it still has the plastic on in the photos, taken by my sister
