I was pulled over for speeding after passing a line of cars ( the last one being an unmarked cop car!DOH!) on a short section of dual carriageway. Luckily id slowed as i pulled in front of him but he still got me for an average of 83 in a 60 zone.
After a long bollocking and an aganising wait he let me off with a warning! Certainly made me think!
I'm not advocating speeding or looking to start a macho chain of speeds people have done on the road- I just wondered what the other peoples experiences of being let off for speeding were.
The cops arent all bad guys and i was lucky enough to meet one of the better ones!

Joined a motorway once which was had light traffic and settled into a cruise a little higher than the limit...

then noticed a cop bike in my rear view... slowed a little and he came alongside and slowed - got my attention, pointed at his speedo.... indicating to watch my speed and on he went.

Ive posted elsewhere about the one who tried to trap me in an unmarked VW. but similar speeds were involved.

never been actually stopped for speeding though.

Certainly sounds like you found a nice one

I'm always polite and extremely remorseful when I'm stopped, and I've never been ticketed after being stopped...yet...and some of those times I've been in triple-figures

It might be the where and when I speed that get's me some leeway, as it's always on quiet & empty, well-lit roads, and the copper probably knew that if I'd wanted I'd have floored it and left him with my 170mph top speed

like i say- with or without points the effect was the same! i wont be going fast for a while!

It really does slow you down for a while - which a speed camera/laser/radar does not do of course as unless you saw them catching you, you won't know until the ticket arrives.

Wow, My best was during a de-stress run after work round my local area, didnt think about the black volvo and passed them at full chat off a roundabout before a set of dual carriages / roundabouts , they caught up about 3 miles later.. I jumped out to meet them halfway , as I always do, the copper blared 'What do you think your doing?' to which I calmly responded 'Making too much progress officer?' He was fighting the grin after that, his mate was pawing over my motor, drooling.... After agreeing that driving like that was for the track, and not their roads - They let me on my way, nice men

Not much different from the school days - if your teacher punished you for everthing you did wrong, you would only built resentment and not learn / change behaviour.

Unfortunately, the police / Government / Camera Partnershuip is generally not aware of that approach...

You weren't that naughty....dual carraige way's are 70 (or was it restricted to 60),so not that bad i think.

Good Cop's nevertheless.

Aged 19/20 travelling 57 in a 40 tri-lane dual carriageway in my 997cc little red micra after a biker had cut me up was pulled over by the plod with his little speed gun.

I listened quietly accepted I was in the wrong got 3 points, a £60 fine and a bollocking saying had I been doing 3 more mph they would have revoked my license.

Never seen a policeman before in my life yet wasnt so lucky to get away.. :(

it was only an over taking streach of two lanes on a single lane road so still a 60! Very lucky!

I was caught by doing 42mph in 30mph, and got SP30 many years ago. I can't believe doing 83mph in 60mph and you only received verbal warning.

% wise of excess speed we were doing rougly the same as eachother

I was in the mountains headed to this place called big basin, and I was taking the turns and straight aways at monster speeds. He caught up after 10 miles and told me he had trouble keeping up. I got cited for 50-something in a 30mph zone.

The cop was nice though

You never know who you are passing i went past a Saab and was just about to go again until his blue lights came on :o good job really usually do a fair speed down that road :driving:

Shift ending in 10 minutes me think :P

I got pulled doing 75 on a 50 dual carriageway. He was waiting in the lay by with laser gun, getting people cresting the small rise in the road. I did consider my options, but decided to pull in. After a short conversation, he let me off as it was nice driving conditions and wasn't really a danger :driving:

It does make you more careful, and the experience of getting caught and let off is more beneficial than a gatso in my opinion.
