Legal Expenses Cover - Inconvenience Payment

Afternoon guys,

I've just had an interesting call with a chap from 'Allianz'.

In essence, I was involved in an accident (not in the Z) 2.5 years ago, fairly minor damage was £1200 to repair my car and the claim was settled on a 50:50 fault basis.

Anyway, I've just been called by the guy from 'Allianz' asking why I haven't submitted a claim in accordance with my Legal Expenses Cover for an "Inconvenience Payment" of between £2,000 and £5,000.

I told him I wasn't inconvenienced (other than dropping the astra off at a repair facility) and that I wasn't interested. I've no idea whether the call was legitimate or not, but in case it was a scam would be interested to hear whether anybody else has had something similar?

I had a text from NatWest yesterday telling me to login via the link provided in the text as there was some suspicious activity with my account and it could potentially get put on hold.

It absolutely would be suspicious activity since i don't have a NatWest account.

Idiots, at least get it right if your going to try scam someone!!! :x

Your own insurance wouldnt push you to do this and the TPI wouldnt be offering anywhere near that kind of money if they were looking to 'pay you off' before you were to pursue legal proceedings. It well passed the event anyway.

Its a scam/you details have been sold on. You'd be lucky to get £50 for inconvenience and at a push £15 per day loss of use.

I wouldn't be so sure of that however as its long after he event I would agree that it's just details that have been sold on but I know that when my dad had an non fault accident and my mum was injured before we knew it there was a cheque through the door as the insurance company had asked a law firm to claim compensation. Something that had not been asked for and not something they mentioned they were going to do. In fact my mum tried to give them the money back but they refused to have anything to do with it. All rather strange. I suppose if they think they are going to get a bit extra out of it, insurance companies will do anything.

I have been pestered with nuisance calls for over 3 years now by these ambulance chasers.
Telling me they have money waiting for me to compensate for my no fault claim.
I now have a little fun with them asking just how much I'm likely to get and how quick will I get my payment.

They seem to get very excited about the prospect of giving me this money.

What was my no fault claim ?

In January 2012 I claimed on my company car insurance policy - FOR A NEW WINDSCREEN :poke:

I doubt they even know about that claim. I get calls and haven't had a car claim at all since 2000

I have just had this call about a claim and getting money back from an incident two years ago. Can't work out the scam but told them I wouldn't be claiming.

Also keep being sent the Natwest email about once a month for the past 4 months. I just delete without opening.

Maybe time to change mail address etc as I have had the same one for decades!

It's not usual for your own insurance company to sell details on. However what you'll find these days is that if someone else is at fault and there is any kind of suggestion that someone involved was injuried the at fault insurance company will try and 'pay them off'. The main reason for this is if the suggested injuried person gets a call from an ambulance chaser or they do go to a solicitor at some point in the future, that is going to cost the insurance company a lot more than trying to settle something early.

On commercial grounds I think they have worked out its better to pay £1000 for example on all possible injury cases, than pay £8000 on the odd ones that get pursued through solicitors.

I bumped into the car in front go through a McDonalds drive through. I had a small crack in my number plate. A few weeks later my insurance company told me that their car was written off and they were going to pay out for two cases of whiplash. Because they did not want to risk loosing a court case. A complete joke.

Problem is whiplash is so difficult to disprove and should the case so to court and a so called independent medical expert confirms that in fact these people are injured, then a judge will simply ask the insurance company or you, if they are a medical expect, which they aren't and agree to settle the case.

The medical expects can get paid anything from £250-£500 a medical report which I've heard people suggesting last for as little 10-15 mins. Not a bad days work! If a solicitor pursuing injury claims is going to refer work through them then they are obviously going to favour the claimant.

All this said I'm privy to a far amount of court conclusions relating to injury cases and it appears that some judges are getting tougher on this. Even sending some falsely claimed injury claimants to do a stretch in prison for trying to cheat the system.

It's all about money unfortunately and everyone is in it to make a buck. People who wouldn't normally claim get pushed into it by these companies who tell them they have money waiting for them. Yay free money!! :x thing is we all end up paying eventually

"Obviously"?!

I wouldn't perjure myself in a medical report in the hope of obtaining repeat business. I've written large numbers of reports for a variety of reasons and I have always given honest and accurate statements based on my expert opinion.

Also, it takes considerably longer than 10 - 15 minutes to prepare a medical report and the rates of remuneration vary greatly.

They also seem to have access to hospital records! I had a domestic accident a few years back which ended up with me losing half the tip of one finger. I still get calls on the house phone saying that I'm entitled to compensation for my injury. Yeah I'll sue the cat for 30 tins of cat food  ... which I'd have to pay for :headbang:

I wouldn't be so sure that they do have access to your hospital and medical records. I think you'll find that's private information and this being shared is breach of data protection. It's more like scanners taking a cold call punt on someone saying your are entitled to compensation. A bit like the folks that call to say you've been mis-sold PPI when you've never had any.

I get the occasional text saying in ex titled to X amount for my injuries due to an accident but I've not been in any so just trying their luck on the off chance you bite

Ah - but you see, "they" read the forum and thought you had a claim against your husband for that shoe incident

Every time they mention my hand injury only started since I had that injury too.

If your insurance company has an Indian call centre, you might as well advertise your policy details yourself.
