LeeStateCars?

Afternoon guys!

I'm just wondering if anyone has an experience with LeeStateCars in chesterfield?

He currently has a BMW Z4 2.5si SE 06 up for sale and I'm thinking about booking a viewing. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/297169754508

Well it is certainly a bare bones car, can’t see any extras to speak of. No heated seats or upgraded alloys for a start.

I know Lee and have nothing but positives to offer- based on seeing the effort he and his partner put in to sourcing and prepping cars

Last time someone posted a similar thread there was a negative view but in that game I guess you will always have detractors

The negative view was me. I don't think selling a car with the airbag light removed is an especially nice thing to do.

I saw someone mentioning they had some faulty third part headlights, but Lee put that right for the buyer the best he could.

Yeah does seem a bit dodgy, but you can't really know if he was the one to remove the light, or even know about it.

Just got off the phone with him, got a viewing for Wednesday. No harm in going to have a good look πŸ‘

If you want to buy a Z4, take a model-specific code reader with you. Check that the car is a genuine SI. The registration number hidden so I cannot run my checks on it. The dented wing and door can be costly to fix.

Well I hope Wednesday goes well.

Just make sure it really is a 2.5Si because they have 40bhp more than a facelift 2.5i! It's unusual to see one with such a sparse spec. - no rear parking sensors either.

Whether he did it or not isnt really the point. He’s a used car dealer so he should have known about it, that’s his job and he shouldn’t be selling cars in that condition.

The seat belt guide on the drivers seat is missing. It's roughly a Β£15-Β£20 part from BMW and quite simple to attach so I'd expect that to be replaced before purchase.

That's fair, you make good point.

Eh that's some good eyes! appreciate you letting me know.

Lee does either find nice cars, or prepares them well. It's often higher mileage cars that I've seen him selling and the condition defies the mileage.

I do think his prices are expensive.

A 3.0i came along at the right price so i bought that I got rid of the 2.2 i got from Lee through WBAC, they needed a full test on it which is how i found out about the airbag light. It'd had a whole new front end, new non BMW headlights and all four tyres were the wrong sizes (that takes some doing!!) Coincidentally Lee had sold my new one to the chap i bought it from up in County Durham.

Sadly I didn't know as much about Z4's as i do now and i was taken in by open top motoring!

That one from Lee looks nice but its but its poverty spec. No heated seats or multi function steering wheel, looks like its on 16" wheels as well. The other one isn't an Si but it does have Msport seats (sadly not heated). That dealer does have a proper site though with loads of stock. Lee operates from his driveway and keeps his cars somewhere else.

Check wheel and tyre condition and that all four tyres are the correct size (rears are different to the fronts usually)
See that the roof operates reasonably quickly, ideally see if the motor has been relocated to the boot.
Two keys.
See if the clutch delay valve has been removed on manual cars.
Make sure its the spec you want. Heated electric seats, cup holders, MFSW, Nav, auto headlights etc etc.
Make sure the boot floor, the battery well and the carpet in the cabin is bone dry (check behind the seats).
If its a hot day see if the steering feels sticky.
If its not got a new advisory free MOT check that any advisories on the last one have been dealt with.
If you can try and get an idea of how old the shocks and struts are, 50,000 miles is about as much as they will do. The MOT no longer has a bounce test to tell if they are knackered so as long as they are not leaking they will pass - but they will be knackered!
Check for lips on the disks.
Check the ratchet on the handbrake lever feels okay and stays up of you give it a bit of bang. The handbrake isn't great but it should hold the car.
The only places they seem to rust are around the wheel arches and very occasionally down at the bottom of the rear wing just behind the trailing edge of the doors.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the list πŸ‘

When you say "check clutch delay valve" what am I checking for? 🀣

That is a difficult one to check as I fitted a drilled out unit so the outside looks the same. Only if people have removed the valve completely would it be obvious. Not an issue in any case whether removed or not

It looks like it's a difficult spot from the engine as well. Doesn't seem like it's a big job to remove myself, so like you said, it's not much of an issue either way.
