LED Number Plate Lights

I've just brought and fitted the standard BMW LED units from a facelift 1 series (and various other models).

They sit very nice and flush, and are nice and bright. The only modification needed is to cut the coding off the plug, as it is slightly different.
 
Sorry to revisit and old thread but after 5 pages worth there doesn't seem to be a definitive replacement.

They either don't sit flush, don't fit, flicker or need modification.

Did anyone source any that were plug and play? I changed mine to LED bulbs which are now both flickering and look awful. Just wondered whether anyone had found anything else that worked without hacksaw intervention for a simpleton like me?

I know in the early part of this Topic I said just the bulb would be fine.
But on seeing JE's lights they are much better....
However I was not prepared to spend the £27 on it

Which I think are pretty much the same.

Still a little thick like Bing said, I have a Black car so it's okay, no biggy.

But yeah the ones in my link are a bit cheaper than JE's and fit fine

As my car is silver grey I think they will stand out too much - mine don't at the moment and fit flush to the body.

However, as they flicker I need to change...do I take a punt on some new bulbs and see how I go. For £2.95 it might be worth a go for 6 months as oppossed to nearly £30.00 for JE's ones.
 
Im also hoping that somebody can link a decent replacement as wouldn't mind some brighter bulbs/LEDs, but having a White Z i don't really want chunky black bits standing out like a sore thumb :(

Hello bud

The bulbs here show up at E89 - I want to get these, can you confirm these part numbers are right?

Or do they retrofit with the connectors?

Hi Bill,

They might be the same as E89, I thought they were off 1 series. Either way that's what I got, they fit perfectly. The only reason for the new connectors is so that the polarity is correct. The old wire pins slip out of the connector with a tiny screwdriver and insert into the new ones.
They certainly don't need cutting off. Does that make sense? I'll dig out the invoice and double check the numbers.

What do you cut off? A locating pin? The connectors aren't hard to swap and for less than £2 each I didn't want to cut corners.

The coding is the part that makes it individual from other connectors of the same shape.

The connector that you brought is an uncoded (universal) connector I believe.

All I have done is simply cut off the piece that stops it fitting. I work for BMW and I would say for a lot of people changing connectors is just as difficult as cutting a piece of plastic.

They sure do.

You make a fair point Mike, they are a bit fiddly I suppose. The ones I received were a perfect fit for the new number plate LEDs, completely different shape to the bulb version.
I can't find the invoice for mine, Sopers sent me the correct connectors though, not sure if they are the same part as the number above.
