Can anyone recommend a supplier for LED number plate lights, ( complete housing & LED bulbs) that actualy fit properly & work on a 2008 Coupe???

I can't help with your query, but it should be in the E85 / E86 section to catch the eye of the people who are likely to know.

To answer your question though, go with a genuine original.
Part number is 63 26 7 165 735 (short version being 7165735) and they are about £17 of eBay.
Don't bother with the copy versions, waste of time and money.

This one plugs into the bulb holder and has LEDs built in.

Take care when removing the housing. It's dead easy to bend the metal clip. I did ...and had to bend it back into position for it to secure the housing. Been in for a few weeks now and still not fallen out.
 
Stupid question, will a LED W5W bulb work if its used in the original holder?

Problem i've got, is the clip has broken in one of the holders. The dam thing hangs down by 5mm on one side.

Do I get a new original part and plug a LED bulb in?

If that works, great. I can then just put an LED bulb in the other one.

Such a small problem causing a headache.

Fed up of buying stuff on line that doesn't work or fit.

Hope someone can advise.

Had exactly the problem, you just need to bend the spring back in position i think I added a pic on a post when I did mine or worst case I might have something to replace your broken part….

Bulbs are:

W5W 501 24*4014 Smd Led Number Plate Bulbs (2 Bulbs) White

I get all my bulbs from here, great service…

The metal clip on the housing is mullered.

The housing itself is ok.

Any ideas on a new clip?

Or is it not worth the hassle?

Should I just go for a new genuine part replacement i.e. the a new housing, then use the 501 24*41014 bulb?

Are those bulbs crazy bright or just fine?

Sorry not been about for a while…

If the spring is still in one piece you can bend it to copy the one in the photo….

For me keeping the Gen holders and using new LED bulbs was the easiest option.
